Carrozzeria Touring Disco Volante Concept Revealed Early

These are the official pictures of the Carrozzeria Touring Disco Volante concept, which were released ahead of the public debut at the Geneva Auto Salon. The concept dusts off a legendary Italian sports car: the Alfa Romeo C52 “Disco Volante” and follows the lines of the 1900 Alfa special version produced in limited series in 1952. The Disco Volante 2012 will be based on the mechanics of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. Power is coming from a 450hp 4.7 liter V8 linked to a six-speed automatic gearbox with paddle-shifters behind the steering wheel. The spaceframe chassis of the 8C will be combined with a hand beaten aluminum bodywork and some use of carbon fiber reducing the overall weight of the ultra-sporty concept. The car has an extremely low drag coefficient of 0.25, according to Milan-based company Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera.

  1. I looked up the original "Disco Volante" and apparently the name was quite appropriate, as it did actually generate lift as well. Don't think I'd've wanted to be behind the wheel of that.

I don't think I'd much fancy driving this either. I'll happily window-shop, with huge amounts of drooling into the bargain, but realistically, I'd be terrified. I'd probably be ok in the MiTo or the Giulietta, but sports cars are probably best left to those who wouldn't end up plastered to the windscreen in manner of Garfield, whimpering in terror. :)
