McLaren P1 Production Model And Full Specs Revealed

McLaren has revealed all on the P1 hypercar, including full details of its staggering 903bhp petrol-electric powertrain, which allows for 0-124mph in less than seven seconds – quicker than a Bugatti Veyron Super Sports. The outlandish design has made the transition from concept to production almost unchanged. There are new brake cooling ducts ahead of the front wheels, but you won’t spot too many other tweaks. The P1 will be officially unveiled at next week’s Geneva Motor Show, and uses a twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 – developed from the one in the 12C – and an electric motor. Both send power to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The 3.8-litre engine delivers 727bhp at 7,500rpm and 720Nm of torque from 4,000rpm, while the electric motor produces 176bhp and maximum torque of 260Nm from zero rpm. Performance is staggering, with 0-62mph in under three seconds and 0-186mph in less than 17, which is nine seconds quicker than the McLaren F1 hypercar of the nineties. Top speed is limited to 217mph. Despite these awesome figures, the hybrid powertrain allows the P1 to emit less than 200g/km of CO2 – only slightly more than the Toyota GT 86. An IPAS (Instant Power Assist System) button on the steering wheel allows for the full 176bhp from the electric motor to be instantly available, providing an electric boost like the KERS system on a Formula One car. Another F1-inspired feature is the Drag Reduction System (DRS). Activated by another button on the steering wheel, it reduces the angle of the wing to lower drag by 23 per cent. An E-mode is available for the powertrain, which allows the P1 to run for around six miles on electric power alone. The battery is charged by the engine, but can also be plugged in for a full recharge in about two hours. Just 375 P1s will be sold across Europe, and each will cost from £866,000 – pitching it against the new Ferrari Enzo successor, which is also set to debut at Geneva. (autoexpress)

Bertone Aston Martin Jet 2+2

Aston Martin recently revealed the Aston Martin Rapide S which will show at the Geneva Motor Show 2013. New reports from Autocar reveal that an Aston Martin Rapide Shooting Brake will be shown at the same show alongside the Rapide S. The one-off Rapide Shooting Brake was created by Italian design and coachbuilding firm Bertone, hence the name Bertone Jet 2+2. It has been designed to celebrate Aston Martin’s 100th anniversary, as well as the 60th anniversary of the collaboration between Aston Martin and Bertone. The car utilizes the same powerhouse as the base Aston Martin Rapide, a 5.9-litre V12 with 470bhp as opposed to the more powerful 550bhp in the Rapide S. Bertone says the C-pillars are bent forwards and connected to the tall, muscular wheel arches to create a perception of movement even when the car is stationary. A sharply raked tailgate and pronounced rear end with a full-length LED light strip run through to help complete the transformation from saloon to shooting brake. The interior is finished in a special wood, aluminum and two-tone leather trim. The 2+2 cabin has four individual seats. The two rear seats fold flat and can be covered by a sliding cover to create a sizable luggage space, access to which is aided by a wide loading area when the tailgate is lifted. (gtspirit)

New Trailer For Wesley Snipes' "Gallowwalkers"

Vision Music Incorporated has released their European Film Market sales trailer for the upcoming Gallowwalkers, starring Wesley Snipes. Although this movie was finalized roughly six years ago, Snipes landed himself in a fair amount of tax-related legal trouble and associated jail time. Now, it seems as if this will finally be the year when Gallowwalkers (and Snipes himself) will be released. Gallowwalkers is the story of a mysterious gunman, Aman (Snipes), the son of a nun, who breaks her covenant with God to ensure his survival. Her break with God curses her son to be hunted by all those who die by his hand - When he takes revenge on a gang that murdered his love, the gang rises as a cursed crew of undead warriors and hunt him mercilessly, seeking their 'dying' revenge. Directed and written by Andrew Goth and Joanne Ray, Gallowwalkers is executive produced and produced by Jack Bowyer and produced by Courtney Lauren Penn, and Brandon Burrows of Boundless Pictures.

2014 Volkswagen XL1

Volkswagen has revealed the production version of the XL1 diesel-electric hybrid; a car that Volksagen claims can travel just over 62 miles on one litre of diesel – or £1.45-worth at the current average price. The lightweight two-seater has previously been revealed in concept form, claiming similarly staggering figures but now Volkswagen has confirmed the final production numbers to be fuel economy of 314mpg and CO2 emissions of 21g/km. It’s impressive efficiency is down to its low kerbweight, aerodynamic design and frugal powertrain. The XL1 weighs 795kg because it has a body made mostly of light carbon fibre-reinforced plastic and an ultra-thin glass windscreen. The body itself weighs just 230kgs. Lightweight by no means flimsy, though, with the carbon fibre-reinforced plastic providing a high-strength survival space in the case of a crash. Front and rear aluminium structures are present to absorb most of the crash energy and the gullwing doors are fitted with explosive bolts so drivers can get out if the car flips upside down. The XL1 is powered by an 800cc two-cylinder diesel engine with 47bhp and a 27bhp electric motor, delivering power to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. In electric-only mode the XL1 can travel around 30 miles on a single charge. When driven in diesel-only mode at normal motorway speeds VW claims it can average around 130-140mpg – or about 250 miles on one 10-litre tank full. With a long, low and narrow design the XL1 claims a drag coefficient of just 0.189. That’s better than the Prius, which claims 0.25Cd. It’s achieved through having skinny tyres and e-mirrors mounted in the doors rather than traditional wing mirrors. These project virtual images on to screens in the cabin, so the driver can see behind them. Inside the cabin, the driver and passenger sit next to each other, with one seat mounted slightly behind the other. The dash is simply laid-out and borrows from other models in the Volkswagen line-up. There is a 120-litre boot at the back, too. Production of the 2014 Volkswagen XL1 is scheduled to commence later this year at the automaker’s plant in Osnabrück, Germany. Only around 50 examples will be built for the initial run, with Volkswagen planning to lift this figure should demand be sufficient. (autoexpress)

3D Printing Pen Turns Doodles Into Objects

Toy company WobbleWorks has launched a Kickstarter campaign to introduce a new technology, 3Doodler, which allows one to squiggle 3D images in the air. The 3Doodler, the world's first 3D pen uses ABS plastic, the same material used by the 3D printers. It allows users to doodle off a page. Users can take the scribbles to the air and continue drawing in the air. That is the most outstanding aspect of the new 3D pen campaign launched by the Boston-based duo Peter Dilworth and Maxwell Bogue. "Everyone knows how to use a pen, so we designed a 3D printing pen" the company said. "If you can scribble, trace or wave a finger in the air you can use a 3Doodler. "As you draw, plastic comes out of the pen, is cooled by an integrated fan, and solidifies right in front of you," it added. The pen is currently in production and is likely to start shipment this September. The first archetype will be out in the latter part of this month. According to the makers, the pen is easy to use and can be used by plugging into a power socket. "We wanted to design a 3D printing device that could be used within minutes, without needing any technical knowledge, software or computers. We also wanted it to be affordable as well as fun, so that anyone could 3Doodle," said Peter Dilworth, Co-Founder & CEO, WobbleWorks  as quoted by Forbes. (ibtimes)

This timepiece has a very different look to what we have seen so far from any watchmaker with a charming yet restrained design. These three names have joined forces to come up with a niche watch design which combines retro-futuristic aesthetics and horological complexity courtesy the trapeze-shaped model having black PVD-coated titanium case. Complimentary to the name, the faceted surface echo, black rotating disc having red indicator transferred on sapphire crystal shows the minutes and the linear hour display is read laterally.
