Jimmy Page Releasing ‘Lucifer Rising’ Album Next Week

Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page will release ‘Lucifer Rising and Other Sound Tracks’ on March 20 via his official website. The record features re-worked versions of unreleased songs intended for the 1972 film of the same name, as well as “avant-garde compositions and experiments” from other projects. Page reportedly composed 31 minutes of music for director Kenneth Anger’s short film, but the pair had a falling out and the guitarist’s work, though heavily bootlegged, has never been officially released. The music has been “revisited, remixed and remastered” for this collection. The album’s release — and we do mean album, because much like last fall’s release of Page’s ‘Death Wish II‘ soundtrack, it looks like this sucker’s only coming out on heavyweight vinyl — is timed to coincide with the 2012 Spring Equinox, in a very Page-y move. There will be a standard edition for about $31, and fans will be able to register for a chance to purchase one of 418 deluxe editions ($47) as well. To make things even more complicated, 93 of those deluxe editions have been signed by Page. Buying one of those will run you about $308, and even then it’s not a sure thing. There is already a lottery to pre-register for your chance to buy either the deluxe or signed deluxe editions of ‘Lucifer Rising,’ and you need to sign up by Sunday, March 18 at 11:59 PM Greenwich Mean Time.
