Lamborghini SUV Images Leaked

Rumors are running rampant that sports car manufacturer Lamborghini is prepping a surprise for the upcoming auto show in Beijing in April – a new SUV. Images were published in the Italian publication quattroroute.it, reportedly showing off the new Lambo. Reports indicate the Lamborghini SUV will be based on the platform of the next Cayenne and will arrive in 2015 or 2016. It will be powered by a V10 from the Gallardo, but the production vehicle will be a hybrid with about 700 hp. Lamborghini’s interest in an SUV has been well-publicized. And with upcoming SUV’s due from Maserati and Bentley, the Italian auto icon will likely want to stay up with the competition.

Honda Releases Complete Ferris Bueller Ad

The Ferris Bueller superbowl ad that was teased a few days ago is finally here, and it’s a real piece of work. Far from being a commercialized ripoff of the 1986 classic designed to hock CRV’s, Broderick’s updated version shines with the same mischievousness of the original, runs nearly 2.5 minutes, and is crammed full of references to the original. The scene: successful actor Matthew Broderick calls in sick to a movie shoot to have a day he’ll never forget, armed with nothing but his CRV and the budget of someone that’s been making blockbuster movies for two decades.

AMG Takes Us Behind The Scenes Of Ducati Photo Shoot

In this video put out by AMG, it takes us behind the scenes of a photo shoot at an active airport involving one C63 AMG Coupe, one Ducati 848 and one attractive model. Despite being "behind the scenes," there's nothing documentary-like in its editing style. The scenes are one beauty shot after another with seductive production music and lots of slow motion. And for bonus, they still managed to throw in a slow-mo drift while the model makes use of her Ducati racing suit and takes the 848 for a little spin.

$500 Million Floating Golf Course Planned For Maldives

Troon Golf, Waterstudio.NL and Dutch Docklands have announced plans to build a floating golf course in the Maldives islands in the Indian Ocean, with holes connected by underwater tunnels. The 18-hole course might sound like the kind of energy-guzzling project you’d see off the coast of Dubai, but it’s intended to have zero footprint on its environment. It’s powered by solar energy — a resource that the Maldives has plenty of, lying as it does just north of the equator. The development will also employ sustainable desalination and water-cooling techniques. The course will be made up of a series of floating platforms containing two or three holes each, linked to one another and to a series of surrounding hotels by underwater tunnels. Waterstudio.NL designed the project, which is being engineered by floating-architecture expert Dutch Docklands. Troon Golf is on hand to offer its expertise in the design of the course itself. The Republic of the Maldives is a series of coral reefs, with the highest point in the entire island chain sitting just 2.3 meters [7.5 feet] above sea level. As such, climate change and the associated sea-level rise are likely to have a significant impact on the country. Its president, Mahamed Nasheed, has announced that he’s looking into plans to purchase new land in other countries to house inundated refugees. To fund that, the Maldives government is looking for ways to further increase the revenues it generates from tourism — which is the single largest contributor to the country’s economy. The planned floating golf course will be located five minutes from Malé International Airport, making it an easy stop-off for people awaiting connecting flights. The project will cost $500 million and is due to be completed in 2015.

Djokovic Beats Nadal To Win Australian Open

World No.1 Novak Djokovic has won the Australian Open men's singles title. Djokovic, of Serbia, beat Spain's Rafael Nadal 5-7 6-4 6-2 6-7 (7-5) 7-5 in five hours and 53 minutes in an epic final at Rod Laver Arena. It is 24-year-old Djokovic's fifth grand slam title, and his third Australian Open - adding to his 2008 and 2011 victories.  The match was the longest grand slam final ever, breaking the previous record of four hours and 54 minutes for the 1988 US Open final between Ivan Lendl and Mats Wilander. It was also the longest match in Australian Open history - longer than Nadal's five hour, 14 minute semi-final against Fernando Verdasco in 2009.

"Renault Alpine" Concept To Be Showcased At Paris Motor Show

The French based automaker Renault is planning to revive its Alpine brand and a follow-up of the iconic Alpine A110 might debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show. The fact that Renault is seriously thinking into reviving the Alpine brand isn’t that new and we’ve talked about this in late 2011. But this recent news is coming from the guys at autocar.co.uk, who are saying that the car manufacturer might reveal a follow-up of the Renault Alpine A110 at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, in September. “These things live by the grace of the day. In my view, the best thing for a designer is always to have something cooking in the corner. Then when the planets line up, you have something ready. Is there room in today’s car market to build something that could be compared to a Porsche? In any case, for an Alpine to make sense financially, it would have to sell in North America and China”, as the company’s design chief, Laurens van den Acker, told autocar.co.uk. In our previous reports we were saying that the new Alpine models, if they will hit the production line, won’t be as aggressive as their predecessors but they will try to become iconic with prestige and elegance, something similar to the Citroen DS lineup. Revival of the Alpine A110 might also mean the revival of the Alpine brand, and to answer the Renault official, yes, there is room on the market for these models.

The Chemical Brothers Launch Their New Live Film "Don't Think"

The Chemical Brothers launched their new live film Don't Think with a star-studded premiere at London's Hackney Picturehouse last night (January 26). The film is a collaboration between the band and their visual designer/director partner Adam Smith and was screened last night in front of audience that included actress Keira Knightely, Klaxons and Doctor Who's Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. Don't Think was filmed during The Chemical Brothers' headline set at Fuji Rock festival in Japan in 2011 and is a mixture of footage of handheld cameras from inside the festival's crowd and the band's spectacular visual show. Speaking about the film, band member Ed Simons said: "We wanted to have a film for us to keep as a record, but Adam had more ambition. There was footage from Glastonbury 2007 which was pretty amazing, it really started to capture what it is to be in the crowd, how the music and the visuals are intoxicating. You have to capture that thing that’s in the air."

Matthew Broderick Is Playing Ferris Bueller Again?!

It's been more than 25 years since Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It now appears that actor Matthew Broderick will reprise his role as the lovable high school misfit for an ad that will air during Super Bowl XLVI. Details surrounding the Ferris Bueller ad are few and far between. In fact, it's not clear what company is behind the ad.  A YouTube user named “chuckachucka2012” posted a ten-second video that shows Broderick throwing up some curtains and saying, “How can I handle work on a day like today?” echoing a classic line from the John Hughes comedy. The ad ends with the song "Oh Yeah" by Yello, which is prominently featured in the original film. The full Ferris Bueller Super Bowl ad is expected to air during the big game on Feb. 5.

Postal Service To Issue Miles Davis Stamp

Legendary jazz musician Miles Davis is set to be honored in the least visible way possible: on the face of a U.S. Postal Service stamp. The Prince of Darkness will be getting his own stamp, along with French singer Edith Piaf. Davis was an early pioneer of bebop and one of the most influential jazz musicians of all time. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. He died at the age of 65 in Santa Monica, Calif. Any person nominated for a commemorative has to go through a lengthy process. The candidate is reviewed by the 12 members of the Stamp Advisory Committee, and then sent to the Postmaster General for a final decision.

Caterham Unveils 2012 F1 Car

The first official image of the Caterham F1 (formerly Team Lotus) team's CT01 was leaked on the team's official twitter feed @MyCaterhamF1, on Wednesday. The team was to reveal its 2012 challenger in the January 26 issue of F1 Racing magazine but decided to release the image a day early via its twitter feed. The car's nose section is distinctively different from the designs of preceding F1 cars due to the change in technical regulations that require the nose of an F1 car to be no more than 55 centimeters above the ground. This is as compared to the earlier limit of 62.5 cm. This has created a distinctive 'step' in the nose section of the car. However, it is just one likely that other teams will have different ways to interpret the change in regulations. The CT01 is the brainchild of Caterham's chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne and technical director Mark Smith. The two were also responsible for the design of the T127 and T128 when the team was known as Team Lotus in 2010 and 2011. Just like in those seasons, the car will be powered by Renault's 2.4 litre V-8 engine.

Omega Commemorates 50 Years Of James Bond

To celebrate fifty years of James Bond films, OMEGA is releasing a special update of the popular Seamaster Diver 300m James Bond watch that has been worn by 007 in every adventure since GoldenEye. The watch has been around since 1947, with the classic timepiece synonymous with James Bond in his later years/movies, when it replaced the Rolex Submariner. According to the  write-up for the limited edition watch, it 'uses a '007 theme' on the black lacquer dial with '50' filled in with red on the outer bezel. The watch also offers Omega’s caliber 2507 co-axial movement, with the winding rotor designed to look like a bullet. It's also inscribed with '50 years of James Bond.' The limited edition Seamaster is being sold worldwide in an edition of 11,007 pieces, with a shelf date of 'some time early this year'. No mention of price as yet, but as both a classic watch and a limited edition, this is unlikely be one of the cheaper watches on the market.

Akai MPC Fly For iPad

Akai has launched a new Music Production Controller that turns an iPad 2 into a full track producer, the Akai MPC Fly, the latest in a series of docking multimedia add-ons for Apple’s best-selling slate. Officially launched at the NAMM this week, the MPC Fly docks with the second-gen iPad with a double-hinge, allowing it to sit upright, lie flat or clamshell closed for travel, and has sixteen backlit MPC pads and support for the MPC App. However, most Core MIDI apps for the iPad 2 should work as well, giving you sixteen velocity-sensitive pads with aftertouch along with several dedicated UI buttons: note repeat, transport controls, mute/solo, track select, erase and timing correct. An integrated li-ion battery powers the MPC Fly itself, with pass-through power for charging the tablet when plugged into the mains. As for the MPC Fly iPad app – which, unlike the controller, will work on both the first- and second-gen iPads – has a four-track mixer, comes preloaded with samples and drums, but can also record external sounds and sequences using either the iPad’s internal microphone or a line-in source. Several effects are offered, including delay and compression, and you can clip sounds from your iPod library with a turntable UI for those demanding retro. Of course, there are Facebook, Twitter and SoundCloud sharing options, since there’s no point doing anything these days if you’re not telling everyone else about it. Once you’ve finished laying down your phat track, you can export it over to your PC or Mac to pick up in a more complex package. No word on pricing at this stage.

'Total Recall' Director Talks Remake

One of the most anticipated films of 2012 is the Total Recall remake. It’s due to hit theaters in August and stars Colin Farrell and Jessica Biel. The good news for sci fi fans is it’s on schedule and the teasers are looking pretty amazing. Colin Farrell plays the role of Doug Quaid in the $120 million reboot. He’s a factory worker who reckons he’s a spy for one of two nation states  -  Euromerica or New Shanghai. The film also stars Bryan Cranston, Bill Nighy, Kate Beckinsale and John Cho. Director Len Wiseman has been hinting at what we can expect ‘I’m very close to handing over my cut. It’s going really well. The combination of mystery and emotion and action, it’s coming together. Colin is a large part of that and I’m really happy with him‘. We’ve already been warned this will be a lot more serious than the Arnold Schwarzenegger original. There’ll be no cheesy one liners which were scattered through the 1990 film. It’s all about less jokes and more action. The Director says it’s a complex tale ‘There’s the reality story and there’s the fantasy element. They’re running parallel together, so you always have to keep those two alive. That’s the inherent nature of the concept and what makes the concept so cool. I think the complexity of the dual stories was the most surprising and challenging thing. When you’re involved in… going back into the Philip K. Dick story, you realise there is so much to be discussed about the dual stories‘.

Deep Purple To Release New Studio Album Next Year

According to blabbermouth.net Deep Purple have decided to extend the writing and recording period of their upcoming 19th studio album in an effort to create a compelling release in 2013. When speaking with UK’s Express & Star in 2011 Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan said he understood that fans may grow impatient. “We know we will disappoint some of our fans this summer. However, we look forward very much to our autumn/winter tour and continuing our worldwide tour with our new album in 2013.” However, Gillan also admitted that a heavy tour schedule, which included 48 countries last year, and a lack of organization has delayed the albums progress. “I think to get some progress as far as an album’s concerned you’ve got to have a target, you’ve got to work to a date, and that gives you pressure. If you’ve got the pressure, you get stuff done. We don’t have a plan, to be honest.” “People like to do stuff that they’re good at, that they enjoy, that they get something out of. So while it’s fun and we’re all getting older and bits are dropping off here and there, it’s still great. I think there probably will be another album.”

2 Live Crew To Reunite

The rap group that created controversy in the early 1990s with songs like "Me So Horny" is reuniting and hitting the road. Luther Campbell said Saturday that 2 Live Crew is back together and will tour this summer. The rapper and producer made the announcement at the Sundance Film Festival, where he is promoting his appearance in the short film "The Life and Freaky Times of Uncle Luke." The 51-year-old entertainer describes the offbeat film as "an art piece" that he did to help young filmmakers who were inspired by his hip-hop work. But his mind was on getting back with the old crew. "I just can't wait to just start practicing," he said. "That's going to be a blast." So will they be "As Nasty As They Wanna Be" (the title of the group's 1989 album that a judge deemed obscene, a ruling later overturned by the United States Court of Appeals)? Not really, Campbell said."We're going to perform the songs and everybody's going to be excited," he said. "Some of the older people of our generation will be able to tell their kids, `You're staying home tonight, we're going to see 2 Live Crew and shake our booty!'"

Morgan Set For 2012 Return To Le Mans

Just days after Peugeot pulls out of Le Mans, Morgan makes a return to endurance racing, entering into a partnership with French motorsport specialist OAK Racing. This will be the first time the British manufacturer has entered the endurance race since campaigning the Aero 8 in 2002 and 2004, but the real inspiration for this return is the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Morgan Supersport taking a class victory in 1962.  The 2012 entry will be an LMP2-class car, manufactured by Onroak Automotive, OAK Racing’s constructor department, based in the heartland of endurance racing - Technoparc des 24 Heures in Le Mans, France. Charles Morgan, Chaiman of the company, said: 'I am thrilled to be able to announce our partnership with Jacques Nicolet and OAK Racing. It is a source of great pride that we have the opportunity to work with a racing car designer and constructor who has achieved such success on the international stage. 'Whilst Morgan sports cars enjoy a great history we have also gained a reputation for pioneering new technology, and I believe LMP2 represents a superb proving ground in which to develop innovative new methods.'

Sylvester Stallone Designs A Pen

Drawing inspiration for the theme and design of his signature pen from his wildly-successful film, The Expendables, Mr. Stallone turned to classical art and worked with Montegrappa’s artisans to create the “Chaos” pen. The pen design was cultivated by the works of 16th century artists including Battista Franco, Albrecht Durer, Hans Sebald Beham and Antonio Pollaiolo to create Mr. Stallone’s idea of Chaos; a sense of the Renaissance, when things were more simplified and perhaps more noble, placed against our current technological society. The “Chaos” pen is the first from the “Cult” collection and is available as a limited edition of 1,000 fountain pens and 912 roller balls in sterling silver, which represents Montegrappa’s 1912 date of establishment. Additionally, 100 fountain pens and 100 roller balls in solid 18K gold and 10 fountain pens and 10 roller balls in solid 18K gold with precious stones will be available for enthusiasts of both the screen legend and Montegrappa. And since I’m sure you were wondering, it goes for between $4,000 and $5,000.

Top 5 Leadbelly Covers

Today (Jan. 20) likely is the 124th anniversary of the birth of legendary blues guitarist Huddie William Ledbetter — or Lead Belly, as he was widely known (his actual birth date is unconfirmed). Discovered by folklorists John Lomax and Alan Lomax in 1933 while he was serving time for attempted murder at a prison in Louisiana, Lead Belly was famously released early after the Lomaxes brought a petition to the state’s governor along with a recording of his signature song, ‘Goodnight Irene.’ From there he gained widespread fame (but little fortune), moving to New York and recording several records of folk and blues tunes — both traditional songs with his own arrangements and his own original tunes — for RCA, Capitol Records and the Library of Congress. Lead Belly’s versions of both became so popular, especially among fellow musicians, that even covers of the traditional folk tunes he played are frequently credited to him. They’ve been covered by everyone from Tom Petty to the Greateful Dead, but the following five stand out from the rest.

1. Creedence Clearwater Revival - ‘Midnight Special'
2. Led Zeppelin - ‘Gallows Pole’
3. Nirvana - ‘Where Did You Sleep Last Night’
4. Tom Waits - ‘Goodnight, Irene’
5. The Beach Boys - ‘Cottonfields’

New Lancia Stratos Cancelled

The plans to produce a limited production run of the new Lancia Stratos have been officially put to bed. The New Stratos was created by German businessman Michael Stoschek and designed by Pininfarina as a tribute to the legendary rally car of the seventies. It used the Ferrari 430 Scuderia as it’s base, as Jalopnik reports, Ferrari CEO Dr. Amedeo Felisa offered his support for the one-off project but not for the production run. The Stratos package measures 4.1 meters in length, features a shortened Ferrari 430 Scuderia chassis and weighs in at just 1,247kg with the weight distributed 44% in the front and 56% at the rear. The power-to-weight ratio of the Stratos is 2.3kg/hp. The sports car uses the Scuderia’s 4.3 liter V8 engine, which churns out 540hp and over 500Nm of torque. The sprint to 100km/h is done in just 3.3 seconds and 200km/h in an impressive 9.7 seconds.

Round Midnight

Since opening its own Swiss manufacture just about five years ago, Harry Winston has taken the art of building technically complex timepieces to new heights. The brand creates high-diamond pieces (including the innovative Rosebud convertible pendant, brooch and wristwatch unveiled this year), sport models and highly complicated watches. According to Frédéric de Narp, the company’s President and CEO, who took the helm two years ago, Harry Winston’s great name, visionary thinking and technical prowess in watches and jewelry have helped propel it to a sixty percent-plus increase in business over the previous year, despite the economic climate. “Harry Winston is a magical name, and my job is to honor the legacy of the brand,” says de Narp. “In timepieces, as of this year, we have now created key cornerstones for the brand with our collections.” (more)

Black Pyramid "Endless Agony" Premiere

Stoner metallers Black Pyramid are releasing their new album, Black Pyramid II, on January 31. You can get your first taste of the album below, though, in the form of the disc’s first song, “Endless Agony.” “We’re incredibly proud of the sonic landscapes we were able to achieve with the new album,” the band’s drummer, Clay Neely, said in a statement.  “It’s a clear successor to the debut album and we allowed ourselves to further expand into some uncharted territories.  The recording of the record was an incredibly rewarding experience and we can’t wait to bring the show back on the road.”

NYPD To Scan People For Guns

The NYPD is looking at a new way to find people packing heat on the street, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Tuesday. The technology, which is similar to infrared imaging, includes a mechanism that can detect the radiation emitting from a person’s body, Kelly said during his State of the NYPD address. Because the energy cannot travel through metal, a concealed gun can be detected from the image captured by the lens of the detector, Kelly said. But the technology — which is being tested by the NYPD and the Defense Department — can be used only at a distance of 3 to 4 feet. “This can be done from a short range,” Kelly said. “We want a distance of at least 25 meters.” Police hope to install the devices on department vehicles in the near future to identify people carrying guns on the street. “These are some of the things we’re working on,” Kelly said. Kelly addressed the Police Foundation at the Regency Hotel on Park Ave.

The Mars Volta To Release New Album 'Noctourniquet' In March

Grammy-winning prog-rockers the Mars Volta's upcoming sixth album, "Noctourniquet," will see a March 27 release on Warner Bros. Like previous Mars Volta records, "Noctourniquet" will be a concept album revolving around a defined narrative. Written by band co-founders Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala, with lyrics by Bixler-Zavala, details on the storyline are sparse but promise elements of "1980's U.K. alt-rockers The Godfathers, Superman comic nemesis Solomon Grundy, and the Greek myth of Hyacinthus," according to a release. Meanwhile, the track "Zed and Two Naughts," reportedly off the new album, will be featured in the soundtrack for the video game  "MLB 12: The Show." The Mars Volta's last effort, 2009's "Octahedron," debuted and peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 chart, where it spent five weeks, and has sold 83,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The announcement follows another big one involving Rodriguez-Lopez and Bixler-Zavala: They will reunite with their previous band, the influential post-hardcore group At The Drive-In, at Coachella this April.
