Europe's First Underwater Restaurant

New York and Oslo-based architecture firm Snøhetta has unveiled plans for Europe’s first underwater restaurant. The re-enforced concrete building will be partially submerged so diners can enter on dry land, before descending down to see the spectacular under-the-waves view. The space will serve as a restaurant for up to 100 people that features an 11-metre panoramic window, but it will also include a marine research center and double as an artificial mussel reef. “More than an aquarium, the structure will become a part of its marine environment, coming to rest directly on the sea bed five meters below the water’s surface,” Snøhetta explained. “Like a sunken periscope, the restaurant’s massive acrylic windows offer a view of the seabed as it changes throughout the seasons and varying weather conditions.” (highsnobiety)
