'RoboCop' Remake Given 2013 Release Date

The remake of the 1987 sci-fi action film Robocop has been scheduled for a 2013 release.  The original film revolved around a cyborg cop in a futuristic version of Detroit and director José Padilha has signed The Killing's Joel Kinnaman in the titular role made famous by Peter Weller.  However, it is believed that Padilha's first choice to play RoboCop was Michael Fassbender, but apparently he did not officially enter talks with the filmmakers.Russell Crowe was also apparently in the running for the remake which, will be written by Gran Torino's Nick Schenk and is scheduled for release on August 9, 2013.
