Following the two teasers and a viral video, Warner Bros. Pictures has brought online the full trailer for Wally Pfister's directorial debut, Transcendence, starring Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Cole Hauser and Morgan Freeman. It is officially described as follows: Dr. Will Caster (Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can…but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will's thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him. Transcendence opens in theaters and IMAX on April 18, 2014. (comingsoon)

BMW Video Explains Advantages Of Laser Headlights On The i8

BMW has released a new promotional video on YouTube that highlights the advantages of the new laser headlight technology over conventional LED units. The company will use the new technology in BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car, thus making it world’s first production car to feature laser headlight technology. According to BMW, laser headlamps will give monochromatic light that is five times brighter than conventional light. It also provides twice the visibility range, while using less than half the energy. BMW claims the new laser headlamps will have an estimated reach off 600 meters, double that of LEDs, reaching 600 meters. The new technology also reduces strain caused to oncoming cars. Unlike conventional headlights, monochromatic light from lasers mean only one wavelength is discharged rather than a spectrum, making it extremely efficient and require less lighting diodes. In fact, the length of laser diodes are just ten microns, one hundred times smaller than square-shaped cells used in LED lights. The BMW i8 will be on sale at a starting price of $135,925 when it enters the market in spring 2014. It will be the world’s first production car to feature laser headlight technology. The BMW i8 is slated to compete against the likes of the Audi R8 and Porsche 911. However, the i8 will stand apart as the only sports car in the category to achieve a combined 50 mpg combined. The BMW i8 drivetrain features a turbocharged and direct-injected 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine that is mated to an electric motor. (imotortimes)

Paris public transport authority RATP has come up with an etiquette guide for tourists on how to navigate the city’s subway system. The Manuel de Savoir-Vivre is an e-book containing 12 humorous rules for tourists to follow to ensure a pleasant ride on the metro. It was the result of collecting thousands of suggestions from commuters over several months. The guidelines are accompanied by helpful illustrations and are aimed at improving tourists' manners, and educating them on the dos and don’ts of riding the subway. Some of the rules are tongue-in-cheek, such as “Have manners: Share your new musical tastes on your social networks. Today, you can express yourself in silence” and “Be helpful: Hold the exit door for the person behind you. In life, never pass on the chance to come across a pretty glance”, while others are common sense. The guide is currently only available in French and you can check it out here. (designtaxi)
