John Lennon's 'Bed Peace' Sign Sells For $154,000

The unidentified Canadian owner of a classic piece of popculture memorabilia has sold the item - a simple sign made by Beatles legend John Lennon during his 1969 "Bed-In For Peace" in Montreal - for close to $160,000 at British auction. The message "BED PEACE" was scrawled in black ink on poster board and displayed inside the Montreal hotel room where pyjama-clad newlyweds Lennon and Yoko Ono spent a full week 42 years ago calling for an end to the Vietnam War and promoting other causes. Christie's announced Tuesday that Lennon's crudely drawn placard drew a top bid of $155,892 at the company's annual London auction of celebrity-related relics. The sign, which includes the musician's doodled mini-portrait of the couple and both Lennon's and Ono's signatures, would have cost about a nickel to produce at the time.
