The Hyundai Elantra is showing off a new look at San Diego's Comic-Con. The
Korean automaker has put on display the Hyundai Elantra Coupe Zombie
Survival Machine, designed by Robert Kirkman, creator and writer of the
comic book and graphic novel series, "The Walking Dead." Features
of the vehicle include a front-end zombie plow with spikes, armored
window coverings, spiked all-terrain/rally type tires, a trunk equipped
with electric and pneumatic weaponry and other gear to ward off attacks
of the undead. Hyundai builds Elantras at its Montgomery auto plant, but this was a special order. The
customized Elantra Coupe was built in Korea and then transformed by
Design Craft Fabrication, a southern California body shop, said Robert
Burns, a spokesman for the Montgomery plant. "Our custom Elantra
Coupe Zombie Survival Machine is the ultimate car for 'The Walking Dead'
fans and anyone who wants to survive a zombie invasion," Steve Shannon,
vice president of marketing for Hyundai Motor America, said in a
prepared statement. "We are excited for fans to come and experience the
Elantra Coupe and GT in a unique, post-apocalyptic way." Hyundai
wanted to do something unique for Comic-Con, a cool concept that would
capture the hearts and minds of attendees, said Rob Lescaille, a
spokesman for the automaker. "What better way to do that than build a zombie car? Zombies are hot right now," he said. Hyundai's Undead program celebrates the release of the 100th issue of "The Walking Dead" comic. For more information, go to www.hyundaiundead.com. Here's a video on the making of the vehicle:
