Legendary Buenos Aires Cafe To Make Way For Nike Shop

The Richhmond Café, an emblem of the Argentine capital closed down and forgot to pay its employees, who regret the literary haven will be turned into a Nike Store. The Old English style chairs of the Richmond Café, those where Jorge Luis Borges and many other illustrious Argentine artists sat for literary gatherings and poetry readings.  Now the decorative ornaments, marble tops, china, furniture, pool tables, chess sets even the piano disappeared over the weekend, cruelly dissipating the doubts of employees, who left work on Saturday hearing rumors their might be problems. “I’ve been working here for 40 years […] they’ve taken everything, we left on Saturday with everything in its place, and today, there’s nothing,” lamented Miguel Angel,  one of the 13 waiters who were never told their work place was disappearing and turning into a Nike Store. “To me, the Richmond was a refugee in the middle of Downtown Buenos Aires; a magical place after work in the middle of the chaos of the city, to me it was like entering an old film from the past,” said one of the café’s regulars. After finding themselves out of a job and lacking answers, the disgruntled staff decided to break into the chained and pad locked establishment and take over it until they get paid. Neighbors have manifested their support of the staff, whom they consider the familiar and always polite staff of a place that carries a strong historical significance.  The city has declared the building a cultural patrimony of Buenos Aires, ensuing it’s protection from demolition or modification, but has no saying on the businesses that might operate in it.

LeBron James' "Olympic Dive" In Barcelona

The following video is from some kind of Nike-sponsored charity event at a pool in beautiful Barcelona, Spain. Apparently, as part of the evening’s entertainment, King James agreed to jump into the pool from the high dive platform. Only, when he actually got up there and looked down, the Miami Heat superstar froze. The next three minutes were filled with a couple of false starts, a guy on the PA saying a bunch of stuff in Spanish, and goading chants from the crowd—all of it totally awkward. Eventually, LeBron musters up enough courage to take the leap.

"Diamond" Planet Discovered

An exotic planet as dense as diamond has been found in the Milky Way, and astronomers think the world is a former star that got transformed by its orbital partner. The odd planet was discovered orbiting what's known as a millisecond pulsar—a tiny, fast-spinning corpse of a massive star that died in a supernova. Astronomers estimate that the newfound planet is 34,175 miles (55,000 kilometers) across, or about five times Earth's diameter. In addition, "we are very confident it has a density about 18 times that of water," said study leader Matthew Bailes, an astronomer at the Swinburne Centre for Astrophysics & Supercomputing in Melbourne, Australia. "This means it can't be made of gases like hydrogen and helium like most stars but [must be made of] heavier elements like carbon and oxygen, making it most likely crystalline in nature, like a diamond." "The Rum Diary"Trailer

Based on Hunter S. Thompson's novel, the story centres on a journalist who escapes the noise of New York City and conventional America in the late 1950s to explore Puerto Rico and write for a local newspaper. The romp costars Amber Heard (Pineapple Express), Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight), Richard Jenkins (Eat Pray Love), Michael Rispoli (Kick-Ass) and Giovanni Ribisi (Avatar). It was written and directed by Bruce Robinson (Withnail & IJennifer 8). Narrated by Depp, the footage shows the writer at a turning point, succumbing to the debauched lifestyle of the questionable characters, getting involved with a woman engaged to a shady businessman, and finding his mission amidst the madness. The book was published in 1998, after Depp discovered Thompson's manuscript when preparing for his role in the film version of the author's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The Rum Diary opens in North America on 28 October, the UK on 4 November, France on 30 November, and other markets through December and into 2012.

The Adipure, which will be in stores in November for $90, is designed to mimic exercising barefoot, but with the protection of wearing shoes. Adidas is the latest athletic company to capitalize on the small but burgeoning market for so-called minimalist shoes. Sales of such shoes have more than doubled in the past year. Those who wear them say they force runners to rely on the body’s natural movements and avoid injury. Critics say the shoes cause muscle injuries.

86 Percent Of Earth's Species Still Unknown?

Even after centuries of effort, some 86 percent of Earth's species have yet to be fully described, according to new study that predicts our planet is home to 8.7 million species. That means scientists have cataloged less than 15 percent of species now alive—and current extinction rates mean many unknown organisms will wink out of existence before they can be recorded. The study was driven by a simple question: "Are we within reach of finding all species, or are we way off?" said study co-author Boris Worm of Canada's Dalhousie University. "The answer is, we are way off." (more)

Monster Magnet To Revisit "Dopes To Infinity" With Exclusive U.K. Shows!

Seminal space-rockers Monster Magnet have revealed that they will play their classic ‘Dopes To Infinity’ album in full at two special UK shows! For the very first time, Dave Wyndorf and his merry men will play their legendary ‘Dopes To Infinity’ album in full – alongside other classic hits – at the Glasgow Garage on November 24 and London’s Koko November 25. Says Dave: “Hey friends! I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support over the last twenty years. Speaking for myself and all the members of Monster Magnet I’d like you to know how much we enjoy performing our music live and I’m sure you would agree with me when I say that live shows are the ultimate bond between artists and fans. “It’s in that spirit that I’m excited to tell you of our next live project: performing the album ‘Dopes To Infinity’ live in it’s entirety. When I wrote ‘Dopes’ in 1995 I envisioned a hard-rock, tripped-out journey exploring the many sounds and styles of the ‘great psychedelic era of 1968-1974′ “I carefully sequenced the album to take the listener on a ‘roller-coaster ride’ of engaging words and music. I sang songs of love, hate, lust, joy and desperation in a style I hoped would fire the listener’s imagination, bringing the everyday emotions that we all share to mythical heights. Thankfully, the fans and critics told me I succeeded. Now I’d like to bring that experience to the stage. ‘Dopes To Infinity’: Live! In its entirety. A complete trip from beginning to end. I can’t wait!”
