Metallica And Lou Reed Name Album!

Metallica and Lou Reed have announced that the title of their upcoming collaborative album will be ‘Lulu.’ Which means, nobody won our office pool. They also started to reveal the tracklist and possible album art for the project, all as part of the slow but steady fleshing out of their joint official website. According to the site, ‘Lulu,’ which arrives on Nov. 1, was inspired by German expressionist writer Frank Wededkind’s early 1900s plays ‘Earth Spirit’ and ‘Pandora’s Box.’ Together, they tell the story of a young abused dancer’s life and relationships. Reed was originally going to use the story as the basis for a theatrical production in Berlin, but after performing with Metallica at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concerts in New York in 2009 they decided to use the lyrics and musical landscape as the basis for this new project instead. The album title appears in what looks like either still-drying red paint or blood on the site and in a box marked “Album Artwork Coming Soon.” So it’s possible this is the first part of the art, but not definite. The site also reveals that the album will apparently feature 10 songs, with spots No. 8 and 9 filled by previously announced song titles ‘Mistress Dread’ and ‘Pumping Blood.’ ‘Junior Dad,’ which we hadn’t heard of before, is slotted in at No. 6. The rest of the sequence promises to be filled in shortly.
