BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe Revealed
The BMW Gran Lusso Coupe has been officially unveiled at the
Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este near Como, Italy, hinting at the future
look of the 5, 6 and 7 Series. Created in conjunction with Italian design house Pininfarina, the car
could also form the basis of a new 8 Series Coupe that would sit at the
top of the range. The Gran Lusso already has several trademark BMW styling cues, such as a stretched-out bonnet, double-kidney grille and the Hofmeister kink in the rear window line. Still, it's clear this is a new generation of BMW design, with the
narrow lights, larger grille and single stretched air intake expected to
appear on all of BMW's future luxury models, from the 5 Series upwards.
The current 7 Series is due to be replaced at the end of 2014, and the
new model will be the first car to get BMW's latest luxury design
language. A new 8 Series isn't expected to debut until at least 2015, but when
it does arrive it'll probably look very similar to the Gran Lusso. That
includes the tail-lights that stretch all the way across the rear, and a
roofline that flows into the bootlid through a pair of buttresses.
Mounted on each of these is a subtle V12 badge, referring to the engine
under the bonnet of the concept. BMW hasn't confirmed its output or
capacity, but it could be the 536bhp 6.0-litre twin-turbo used in the
760Li. The Gran Lusso's cabin has plenty of exotic materials, such as kauri
wood trim sourced from New Zealand and a rooflining finished in Italian
virgin wool. It seats four, but BMW claims it has rear legroom “almost
on a par with that of a big luxury sedan”. The new 8 Series could form part of BMW's plans to release 10
completely new models by the end of 2014 – it fits with the upcoming 2
Series and 4 Series coupes to fill gaps in the range. It would also give
BMW a rival to the new Mercedes S-Class Coupe. (autoexpress)
Iamamiwhoami – “Y” (Moby Remix) (New Song)
Moby has remixed iamamiwhoami's "y" from their forthcoming release "bounty" out June 3rd via To Whom It May Concern / Co-operative Music. Moby states: “I first heard iamamiwhoami
at a restaurant in London a few years ago. After hearing them I emailed
my manager, Eric, and asked ‘have you heard of this band iamamiwhoami?’ and he wrote back, ‘yes, we manage them’. When they asked me to do a remix for them I happily said ‘yes’, as I’m a
fan of theirs. and when I heard the song they wanted me to remix I
realized that I didn’t want to deconstruct it and change it, but rather
just add melodic and structural elements to it, to enhance what they’d
already done.
BMW Concept 90
BMW has just taken the wraps off the Concept Ninety – a collaboration
between the German firm and Californian custom builder Roland Sands as
the company celebrates 40 years since the original R90S and 90 years of
making motorcycles. The Concept Ninety has the 110bhp air/oil-cooled Boxer twin from the
previous generation of BMW R1200GS but combines it with a pared back
style and a front cowling similar to that of the original 1973 R90S; it
even has the same Daytona Orange paintscheme and the short rear seat. Underneath the R90S style front fairing is a round front light but
rather than the traditional front lighting technology from 1973 it has
the latest LED technology. The 1973 R90S was a real performance bike in the day and remains an
iconic machine today; an icon BMW is more than happy to resurrect as the
firm gears up to celebrate 90 years since it started making
motorcycles. (motorcyclenews)
Renault Twin'Run Revealed
Following a batch of spy shots and a teaser, Renault has officially revealed the Twin'Run concept.
Envisioned most likely as a preview of a potential modern Renault 5 Turbo, the two-seater concept packs a mid-mounted V6 3.5-liter engine borrowed from the Megane Trophy. It generates 316 bhp (235 kW) at 6,800 rpm and a peak torque of 280 lb-ft (379 Nm) at 4,850 rpm. Power is sent to rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox and a limited slip differential. Thanks to this setup, the Twin'Run needs just 4.5 seconds to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) and a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
It tips the scales at only 950 kg (2,094 lbs) thanks to fiberglass body panels and a tubular chassis, while the roof, front splitter, wheel arches and rear vent are made from carbon fiber. Some of the styling will be carried over to the next-gen Twingo but with a rumored five-door configuration. It sits on 18-inch alloy wheels shod in Michelin 205/40 front and 245/35 rear tires, while stopping power is provided by vented discs with six-piston calipers for the front wheels and four-piston calipers for the rear axle. The concept is 3680mm long, 1750mm wide and 1493mm tall, with a 43:57 weight distribution. Inside the cabin it has Sparco seats with race-spec harnesses, sequential gear lever and handbrake levers installed close to the steering wheel, a 5.5-inch LCD instrument cluster, plus black & red Alcantara-like suede for the dashboard and door panels (worldcarfans)

Rocket-Powered Bike Sets Land Speed Record
By strapping a hydrogen peroxide-powered rocket to his bike, daredevil
cyclist Francois Gissy broke a land speed record this past Sunday,
reaching a top speed of 163 MPH. Gissy set his mark along a vacant
stretch of highway in Munchhouse, France, besting the previous
rocket-powered bicycle record of 150 MPH set in 2002. Gissy’s monopropellant rocket, built by Swiss company Exotic Thermo
Engineering, was full of concentrated liquid hydrogen peroxide, about 30
times more concentrated than stuff you can pick up at your local
Walgreens. The concentration is fed from the tank into a secondary chamber
that houses a catalyst — usually silver. When the reaction takes place,
the hydrogen peroxide breaks down into heat, water and oxygen to create
steam that’s 650 degrees Fahrenheit. That steam is then pushed through a
rocket nozzle, giving the bike its thrust. While Gissy broke the record for rocket-powered bikes, he was
still 4 MPH off the fastest cycling speed of 167 MPH that Dutch cyclist
Fred Rompelberg set in 1995 while riding in a slipstream, sans rocket. (discovery)

The Adastra Superyacht By John Shuttleworth
Five years since shipping industry billionaire Anto Marden commissioned
the construction of the Adastra Superyacht the modern marvel has
recently taken the crown for “Most Innovative Design” at the 2013 World
Superyacht Awards. Designer John Shuttleworth
chose a trimaran shape in which the boat features multiple hulls with a
main hull in the middle and two smaller outrigger hulls at its side.
This one just so happens to be the second largest of its kind, but the
only that can be controlled by an iPad miles away from the actual
vessel. Measurements taken during sea trials show that its fuel
consumption at 10.5 knots can respectfully reach as low as 17 liters per
hour when carrying 10% fuel and water. Its slender hulls and
streamlined exterior allow the Adastra to travel faster in the open
ocean. At 17 knots the Adastra has a 4,000 mile range to comfortably
cross both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans at hi-speeds. Furthermore,
the deck and superstructure is constructed from carbon fiber with Nomex
honeycomb core while the hull is a glass/Kevlar foam sandwich as the
interior offers lightweight oak cabinetry and honeycomb panels. To
further reduce weight Shuttleworth specifically incorporated carbon
fiber hatches, toilets, port lights and ladders. If you happen to be
traveling by sea in or around Indonesia any time soon, you may spot the
Adastra Superyacht as Marden will likely be traveling between the pair
of islands he owns in the region. (hypebeast)

Ferrari 512 BBi Is A Piece Of Art
When Holger Schubert created his studio-garage space, he did what any
self-respecting, Ferrari-loving, minimalist architect would do: he took
his work-of-art BB 512i and built everything around it. As any showcased
work of art deserves to be, Holger's car is in the spotlight and on the
pedestal that is the studio garage, which was designed and built for
the specific purpose of working and living alongside the Ferrari. Holger
shares the details of his car and of his enviable space, which includes
a 16-foot driveway bridge, a ramp to roll the car outside to start, and

Xbox One
Following months of speculation, Microsoft has officially unveiled the successor to the Xbox 360
– the Xbox One. Designed not only for next-generation gaming but also
intended to be a comprehensive entertainment experience, the Xbox One
was described by Microsoft’s own Don Mattrick as a device “where all of
your entertainment comes alive in one place” – an all-in-one system
offering a “simple, instant, and complete” experience. Now incorporating
Kinect right out of the box, the machine features voice control
capabilities and gesture recognition technology for navigating its
start-up interface, while the machine itself boasts 8GB of RAM, a 500GB
on-board hard drive, native 64-bit architecture, HDMI input and output,
built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi, an 8-core CPU, and USB 3.0 connectivity.
Notably, the device scraps the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive in favor of Blu-ray
discs. Furthermore, the new controller is obviously based on that of
the Xbox 360, albeit with a more contemporary look and an integrated
battery compartment for wireless connectivity. Finally, users can expect
the Xbox One to offer DVR capabilities, as well as a plethora of cloud
functionalities via Xbox Live. Although pricing details have yet to be
revealed, Microsoft stated that the system would launch “later this
year.”

Watch The First Trailer For Alejandro Jodorowsky's New Film "The Dance Of Reality"
Back in April, it was reported that director Alejandro Jodorowsky would be
debuting his first proper feature in over 20 years at Cannes this week.
Best known for his surreal and violent masterpieces, The Holy Mountain, El Topo, and Santa Sangre all established the 84-year-old director as an iconic avant-garde filmmaker. And with his new film, titled La Danza de la Realidad or The Dance of Reality,
Jodorowsky explores his childhood, with an autobiographical look at his
youth in Chile. Adapted from his own memoir, Jodorowsky's film will
deal with the director's struggle to come to terms with his abusive
upbringing. In speaking with the Miami Times
back in January, Jodorowsky's son Brontis—who co-stars in the film—said
that, "My father had a very severe education from his father...and he
remembers his childhood as a very sad and violent thing," going on to
say that, "The main character is his father, Alejandro's father, and he
asked me to play his father…There is a kid who plays Alejandro as a kid
and a Chilean opera singer plays Sara [the mother], and Alejandro
appears in the film as himself…It's very different from the other films
that he made." So now, with Cannes underway, a trailer from French distibutor Pache has finally be released. Take a look for yourself below. (blackbookmag)

Drone-Vision Rifle Goes On Sale For $22K
A TEXAS company has developed a "smart rifle" that barely needs to be aimed.
The maker of the $22,000 gun, being shipped to stores this week,
brags that “even a novice shooter can become an elite long-range
marksman in minutes”. But opponents claim the weapon will turn any "two-bit criminal" into a "highly trained sniper", ABC News in America reports. The company, TrackingPoint,
has said its “world’s first” long range Precision Guided Firearms (PGF)
integrate precision hardware, digital optics, and tracking technology
to deliver an unmatched shooting experience. “We’re taking centuries old tech, firearms and ammunition, and
introducing 21st century technology to it,” TrackingPoint CEO Jason
Schauble told ABC News. The rifles come equipped with what the company is calling the
XactSystem, which uses a network tracking scope with digital display
interface, laser tagging to “paint” a moving target, and a guided
trigger that only lets the shooter fire when there is a high percentage
shot. The weapon is being introduced at a time when the debate over gun control has raised tempers on both sides of the argument. Mr
Schauble said safety is paramount with a password which can be set on
the gun’s scope software. This doesn’t render the rifle useless, but it
does lock any unauthorized users out of the precision technology. David
Chipman, a spokesman for Mayors Against Illegal Guns which lobbies for
an expansion of background checks for people buying guns, said the PGF
“is not your grandfather’s hunting rifle used for sport and recreation
this is a weapon designed to kill with precision.” “This technology potentially enables any two bit criminal to operate with the skills of a highly trained sniper,” Chipman said. The new gun follows controversy over 3D printable handgun designs appearing on rogue websites. Last
week, blueprints for the world's first 3D printable handgun had taken
refuge at file-sharing website The Pirate Bay, upsetting a US government
attempt to get them off the internet. Defense Distributed, a
Texas non-profit organisation that promotes the open-source development
of firearms using 3D printers, withdrew the files needed to make the
single-shot Liberator at the behest of the State Department on Thursday. "This file has been removed from public access at the request of the
US Department of Defense Trade Controls," said Defense Distributed on
its website, which it embellished with the State Department seal. "Until further notice, the United States government claims control of the information," it added without elaboration. (news)
Aston Martin CC100 Speedster Concept
Aston Martin has unveiled the CC100 concept as part of the company's centenary celebrations. The concept is a tribute to the firm's 1959 DBR1 racer which
triumphed at Le Mans and has a classic two-seat speedster configuration
with modern AM styling cues. It boasts a carbon fiber body work and a
V12 6.0-liter mill linked to a 6-speed automated manual gearbox. 0-62
mph (0-100 km/h) takes a little over four seconds, en route to an
electronically-limited top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h). The car is approximately 4.5 meters long and around 2 meters wide,
with an estimated curb weight of less than 1,200 kg (2,645 lbs). The
concept was developed and built in less than six months at the company's
global headquarters in Gaydon, UK. Aston Martin has built one unit of the CC100 up until now and
apparently it has already been sold for an estimated price tag of
between 770,000 USD and 1,540,000 USD. (worldcarfans)
