Snolo Stealth-X High Performance Sled
Two Central Otago ex-police officers, a currently serving cop and a
Queenstown design firm have created an award-winning, high-performance
snow sled, which will soon have its global launch.
In December the Stealth-X high-performance sled, the flagship product of Snolo Sleds, will hit the market after six years of market research, prototype creating and testing. This month the carbon fibre sled won the silver medal for the concept and experimental section in the New Best awards - New Zealand's top industrial design awards. The sled is designed to be used on both hard, compact snow and soft, powdered snow, and is a far cry from the wooden sleds of old that were designed to run down a gentle slope. Snolo Sleds director and marketing manager Sean Boyd said the sled was no child's toy. "I'm not an avid skier or snowboarder but I like to go fast. I wanted to create a sled that took me to speeds that would excite me," Mr Boyd said. Early test runs on an average gradient slope showed the Stealth-X was capable of speeds of more than 65km. In a design first, the sled can also steer and stop in much the same way as a snowboard. "That's the market this sled is set to compete with. It's taken the old-fashioned factor away from a child's plaything, and made sledding into a seriously cool adult pastime that wants to rub shoulders with the traditional sports of skiing and boarding." The sled comprises three main parts; a seating shell, a single front ski with foot pegs, and an arm, that connects the two. It can also be pulled apart in one action, and worn as a back pack. Mr Boyd engaged Queenstown design firm 4Design in 2010 to take his "raw but well-functioning" prototype and at his request "made it look good". He funded the early stages of production himself, then after realising he needed help with the last push, recruited friends Mike and Liz Williams to join the cause. The trio then set about creating Snolo as a company and marketing the product. "The result is now the most recent new addition to the snowboarding and skiing fraternity," Mr Boyd said. The Stealth-X will be launched for the northern hemisphere winter and Mr Boyd and Mr Williams will soon leave for China to oversee production. The Stealth-X will be available in New Zealand in time for the 2013 winter. Price $3000

Motörhead To Begin Recording New Album In January
Motörhead will record a new album in 2013, according to Lemmy. The 'Ace of Spades' singer told Billboard that he is almost ready to star recording Motörhead's follow-up to 2010's The World is Yours. "We're gonna start in the New Year, go into the studio in January," he
revealed. "We'll go into the rehearsal room about a month before the
album and just band stuff out." Lemmy also revealed that Motörhead are excited to celebrate the band's 40th anniversary in 2015. "We'll think of something; we always do - probably involving naked women or something," he hinted. "But
we've been lucky; we've been around so long people realize they can't
get us to go away, so they've just decided to join us. You might not
like what we do, but we do what we do very well. "We're not
killing ourselves. We don't get into the studio and say, 'Let's write a
hit single!' We've never been one of those bands. We really don't care
if everybody likes it; if people like it, to us it's a bonus." Motörhead
released their self-titled debut album in 1977. The landmark album
included their iconic tracks 'White Line Fever' and 'Iron Horse/Born To
Lose'. (DigitalSpy)

Creature With The Atom Brain Feat. Mark Lanegan – "Black Rider Run" (New Video)
'Black Rider Run' from the album 'The Birds Fly Low' by Creature with
the Atom Brain (2012) - featuring 'Mark Lanegan and Alain Johannes'. Creature with the Atom Brain is a Belgian alternative rock band consisting of Millionaire keyboardist Aldo Struyf (Guitar/Keys/Vocals), Dave Schroyen (Drums), Jan Wygers (Bass) and Michiel Van Cleuvenbergen (Guitar). The band have been said to make “fuzzy stripped-back rock’n’roll noise with a generous helping of weird.” The band’s name is taken from the Roky Erickson & the Aliens song (which in turn was taken from the 1955 film of the same name), with Struyf citing Erickson’s former band the 13th Floor Elevators and the man himself as influencing Creature with the Atom Brain’s sound. After two 12” EPs on Conspiracy records, the
band released their first full length album on March 24, 2008, entitled I
am the Golden Gate Bridge. The album notably featured guest vocals from fellow Millionaire band-member Tim Vanhamel and Mark Lanegan, Struyf having provided keyboards and toured for the latter’s Bubblegum album. Creature with the Atom Brain have since toured in support of the album,
including playing canceled shows for Masters of Reality and supporting
Jesus and Mary Chain on selected shows. (LastFm)

Arnold Schwarzenegger To Star In "Conan The Barbarian" Sequel
Arnold Schwarzenegger is reprising one of his most famous movie roles
- Conan the Barbarian - for an upcoming sequel, Universal Pictures said
on Friday.
Schwarzenegger, 65, will play the sword-swinging hero in "The Legend of Conan," 30 years after the film that launched the Austrian body-builder as a Hollywood star. "I always loved the Conan character, and I'm honored to be asked to step into the role once again," Schwarzenegger said in a statement. The original films, 1982's "Conan the Barbarian" and 1984's "Conan The Destroyer," together grossed more than $70 million at U.S. box office. The "Conan" franchise was remade in 2011 with "Game of Thrones" star Jason Momoa, but the film -- also called "Conan the Barbarian" -- failed to repeat the success of its predecessors, earning only $21 million at the North American box office, according to film tracking site BoxOfficeMojo.com. The new "Conan" film is the latest Hollywood venture by Schwarzenegger since the action movie hero ended his term as governor of California in January 2011. He starred alongside Hollywood's veteran action heroes in this summer's "The Expendables 2," and is lined up to star in five other films, including thriller "Ten" and "Triplets," a sequel to his hit 1988 comedy "Twins" alongside co-star Danny DeVito. Schwarzenegger, a Republican, also has launched a global policy think-tank in his name at the University of Southern California, and released a memoir in October, "Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story." The book revealed details of the child Schwarzenegger fathered with his family's housekeeper 15 years ago, while married to Maria Shriver. (Reuters)

Ducati 1098 Custom By Anglada Originals
This ‘café fighter’ is owned by Alonzo Bodden, who used the original
bike as a trackday machine until a highside accident severely damaged
it. Most 1098 owners would have had their bike repaired back to standard
spec, but Bodden decided to give his to Nick Anglada of Florida-based Anglada Originals. This is the result: a powerful, heavily upgraded Ducati packed with
ultra high performance components and a unique style. Anglada went to
town on this 1098, fitting an exhaust system and carbon fiber monocoque
subframe from Double Dog Moto, a clear-coated Ducati Performance
aluminum fuel tank, and a Yamaha MT-03-style headlight from German
tuners LSL. Other top-shelf parts include Race Tech re-valved Showa forks and a Race
Tech rear shock. The wheels are from Carozzerria and most of the brake
system has been swapped out for Beringer components. (bikeexif)

"Talking" Whale Could Imitate Human Voice
Birds aren't the only animals that impersonate people—a beluga whale learned how to mimic the human voice, a new study suggests. The "talking whale" was NOC, a captive whale that lived for 30 years at the National Marine Mammal Foundation in San Diego, California, until his death in 2007. Researchers first noticed something peculiar back in 1984, when they
heard people talking around NOC's enclosure when no one else was nearby. (more)

The pictured bike was built for Season Two of Discovery Channel’s “Cafe Racer” TV show, and it is what Mr. Greg Hageman of Doc’s Chops
made out of a Yamaha Virago XV750 from the 80s. Hageman built a new
subframe, lowered the fork by two inches (about 5 cm) and added a
Tarozzi fork brace as well as a couple of Tarozzi rearsets and clip-ons
to improve the riding position. On the rear there is an adjustable
air-assisted monoshock, while a simple Acewell unit replaces Virago’s
standard instrumentation. The original engine has not been touched, although its Hitachi
carburettors got now a new jet and new K&N filters. The model also
uses a Mac Performance exhaust system, and Bridgestone tyres.
