The first official image of the Caterham F1 (formerly Team Lotus) team's CT01 was leaked on the team's official twitter feed @MyCaterhamF1, on Wednesday. The team was to reveal its 2012 challenger in the January 26 issue of F1 Racing magazine but decided to release the image a day early via its twitter feed. The car's nose section is distinctively different from the designs of preceding F1 cars due to the change in technical regulations that require the nose of an F1 car to be no more than 55 centimeters above the ground. This is as compared to the earlier limit of 62.5 cm. This has created a distinctive 'step' in the nose section of the car. However, it is just one likely that other teams will have different ways to interpret the change in regulations. The CT01 is the brainchild of Caterham's chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne and technical director Mark Smith. The two were also responsible for the design of the T127 and T128 when the team was known as Team Lotus in 2010 and 2011. Just like in those seasons, the car will be powered by Renault's 2.4 litre V-8 engine.
