Alessi AR-1 Supercar

At the 1979 New York International Auto Show, Alessi Fiberglass, an American fiberglass manufacturer revealed a Buick V6-engined sports car with a fiberglass body. Dubbed AR-1, the car received stellar feedback, and this in turn, led the company to produce a few more units. But, the car vanished soon as the company went busy making fiberglass. After 32 years, Alessi returned to the New York Auto Show to display an updated version of the AR-1, this time with few changes. The car is powered by a mid-mounted Corvette-sourced 6.2-liter V8 engine, which is its prime attraction. The mill is attached to a six-speed manual transmission which generates power to the rear wheels. The V8 engine is rated at 600 horsepower at 6,200 rpms, and 580 lb-ft of torque at 3,700 rpms. The car sprints from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. If it is not enough, you can replace the supercharger with two turbochargers to bump the engine’s output up to 750 horsepower, and 690 lb-ft of twist. The car weighs less than 3,196 pounds and to maintain weight, the chassis has been made out of eleven gauge steel. Besides, the body is fashioned out of hand-laid fiberglass with steel reinforcement. It also features a Sparco steering wheel, cut pile carpeting, a backup camera and power bucket seats. The race inspired instrument panel of the car offers eight separate analog gauges mounted on a fiberglass cluster. Alessi will be producing around fifty models of the vehicle, but didn’t reveal about its pricing.
