Even as the DeLorean DMC-12
quickly met its demise a scant two years following its 1981 debut, the
vehicle has lived on in the memories of car enthusiasts and designers
alike. The proof lies in this creation from one such designer named Alex
Graszk, who’s re-imagined the DMC-12 as a luxury coupe built for
present day. His DMC.Concept represents a striking evolution of the
original, rather than a simple mimicking of the real thing, but of
course the signature gull-wing doors remain intact.

1978 Subaru Brat
On this episode of Ignition Jonny Lieberman gets to do something he's
dreamed about doing since he was 10-years-old — ride in the back of a
Subaru Brat! Standing for Bi-drive Recreational All-Terrain Vehicle,
the Brat was a lovable answer to America's notorious chicken tax — the
law that states all pickup trucks not built in the USA much pay a 25%
import tariff. Many examples exist of work arounds, but none were quite
so creative/dangerous as the Brat. Subaru has come a very long way since
the late 1970s, but they've never really recaptured the magic of their
mini-truck, the Brat. At least one former U.S. President agrees.

Rupert Sanders To Direct "Ghost In The Shell" For DreamWorks
A live-action adaptation of the classic manga Ghost in the Shell appears to be one step closer to reality. Deadline reports that Rupert Sanders, director of Snow White and the Huntsman,
has signed on to direct the project for Dreamworks. Written by Masamune
Shirow, the original manga follows a covert task force focused on
cybercrime, and spawned multiple video games, sequels, and anime
adaptations. The project has been simmering at Dreamworks for some time. The studio originally bought the rights for the property back in 2008 with the intent to produce it as a 3D film, though it's cycled through several different writers — including Shutter Island's
Laeta Kalogridis — in the years since. Sanders will be directing from a
new script by William Wheeler, whose credits include the 2012 thriller The Reluctant Fundamentalist. Check out the trailer from the 1995 anime below: (theverge)

Lotus C-01 Motorcycle Unveiled
According to Motorcycle News, these are official Lotus renderings of the upcoming C-01 motorcycle. Lotus Motorcycles was founded less than a year ago and will enter
this segment with a bang as the C-01 looks as if it was taken straight
from a Mad Max movie. Matching the aggressive looks will allegedly be a
V-twin liquid-cooled engine sourced from the KTM RC8R which will be
tuned to deliver approximately 200 bhp (149 kW). Lotus has previously described the C-01 as a "hyper bike" with design
being inspired by the Lotus 49 racecar. It will allegedly feature a
carbon fiber monocoque and in these renders we notice what appears to be
an exposed carbon fiber weave and a considerably wide tire at the back. Hopefully Lotus will share more details about the motorcycle in the
near future as they haven't said anything about the C01 since June last
year when they released a teaser photo. (worldcarfans)

"Haunted" Maya Underwater Cave Holds Human Bones
A flooded sinkhole in southern Mexico so frightens nearby villagers that they won't go anywhere near it. The ancient Maya seem to have kept their distance too. A recent underwater survey in the cavern, or cenote,
located in Mexico's Yucatán, has found a likely reason for its fearsome
reputation—the floors of its two chambers are littered with human
bones. (more)

Kia GT4 Stinger Concept
Kia Motors America unveiled its new sports car, the GT4 Stinger, as a
concept car at the North American International Auto Show on Monday
afternoon. Under the hood, the Stinger has a 2.0-liter, turbo-charged, gasoline
direct-injected, four-cylinder engine putting out 315 horsepower. “It’s about purity, simplicity and timelessness,” said Tom Kearns,
chief designer at Kia Design Center America. “The GT4 Stinger is a
throwback to days when driving a car was a visceral experience that
wasn’t muted by electronic gimmickry.” Kearns also said that if anyone were to ask if Kia has the
credibility to build a car like the GT4 Stinger, he would point out that
Kia races and wins against some of the world’s most legendary
performance brands. Kia Racing and partner Kinetic Motorsports won the
Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and Team Championships in
2012 and are now gearing up for the Optimas in the Pirelli World
Challenge in 2014. The Stinger uses the same engine as Kia’s Optima race cars. On the
Stinger, a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission drives the rear
wheels, wrapped in Pirelli performance tires and framed with custom
20-inch aluminum and carbon fiber inserts for strength and weight
reduction. The interior features leather bucket seats, a rubber mat
floor and red-stitched pull straps for handles.
Although there are currently no plans to bring the concept to
production, Kia has a history of delivering vehicles that closely
resemble its concept cars. (ibtimes)

Yamaha Virago XV535 By Old Empire Motorcycles
The ‘Bristol Bulldog’ is England-based Old Empire Motorcycles’
seventh build, a Yamaha Virago 535 inspired by the 1920s biplane
fighter used by the Royal Air Force. In order to achieve the stocky
look, OEM slapped on a set of USD forks and re-laced the wheels onto 16”
rims wrapped in Avon SM MK2 rubber. OEM also ditched the original fuel tank for a vintage Japanese
sportbike piece. Nifty details abound, like the velocity tanks peeking
through the top of the tank, a small mesh cowling surrounding the twin
headlights, and hand-tooled leather for the side panels, grips and peg
inlays. At the rear is a pair of custom-made struts chromed and painted
to match the front end, set off with 2.5” stainless pipes and a matte
silver/gold paint scheme by Black Shuck Kustom. (bikerscafeblog)

Audi Allroad Shooting Brake Concept Leaked Ahead Of NAIAS
Only a few days before its grand premiere at the 2014 Detroit motor Show, photos of the new Audi Compact Crossover have surfaced online. While Audi didn't say anything about a production model in its previous release on the car,
after looking at these photos and seeing how its design and details in
general are much closer to a production than a concept vehicle, one
can't but wonder about what the future holds for this study. Ingolstadt has said that the concept's styling "combines
a host of visual elements from future models with the Audi-typical
allroad concept and independent 'Shooting Brake' body style". Roughly
around the same size as an A3 hatchback, the Compact Crossover comes
with a e-tron labeled hybrid powertrain, full details of which should
follow in the coming days. (carscoops)
