Mazda RX-7 To Return In 2017

The Japanese based automaker Mazda has recently announced its plans to produce the RX-7, but the sports car won’t hit the market earlier than 2017. According to the car manufacturer, the Mazda RX-7 will be produced in 2017, 50 years after the company has made the 1967 Cosmo Sport 110S, which was the first Wankel-powered vehicle. Rumors are saying that the upcoming Mazda RX-7 will probably get a naturally aspirated rotary engine under its hood, probably the new 16X, which will produce a total output of 300 HP (224 kW) from its 1.6 liters in displacement. The unit, which hasn’t been used on any model just yet, won’t get a turbo, because Nobuhiro Yamamoto isn’t a fan of turbocharging. The new Mazda RX-7 will be lighter compared to the model which left the production line back in 2002 but it’s not sure just yet if the sports car will be in the same territory with the Subaru BRZ, with the Toyota GT 86 or with the Scion FR-S, but considering its 300 HP in standard version, the model might generate new rivals for it.
