Girard-Perregaux Quasar Light Limited Edition

Swiss luxury watchmaker Girard-Perregaux has debuted a limited-edition version of its famous Quasar timepiece, now constructing its movement bridges in sapphire crystal as well. Named the Quasar Light, the intricately skeletonized watch features a near full-sapphire construction, from its casing to its crystals on the front and caseback as well as the dial and bridges itself. It’s equipped with a tourbillon composed of 79 different parts and makes a full rotation every 60 seconds for extreme accuracy, driven by an in-house 27-jewel automatic caliber GP09400-1128 movement which runs at 3Hz and boasts a power reserve of 60 hours. For an even cleaner look, the company has skillfully hidden the rotor underneath the mainspring barrel at the 12 o’clock position. According to Girard-Perregaux, the exclusive piece “required over 200 hours of work and hundreds of operations with techniques perfected over two centuries.” With only 18 samples made globally, the Quasar Light will go at a hefty price of $294,000 USD.
