Tag Heuer Unveils 3rd Generation Connected Watch

Tag Heuer has announced the third generation of its luxury smartwatch, featuring a more refined design and added sensors for sport and fitness. It is available in stainless steel and titanium models with a 45mm case, each with a rubberized crown and ceramic bezel. Its 1.4-inch OLED touchscreen is protected by scratch-resistant sapphire glass. Like other smartwatches it runs on Google’s Wear OS operating system and hooks up to your phone to display notifications and messages. A new Tag Heuer Sports app uses GPS plus heart rate, compass, accelerometer and gyroscopic sensors for tracking sports including golf, running and cycling. Activity from the watch can then be shared with services like Strava, Google Fit and Apple Health. Tag Heur’s Connected also looks more like a traditional watch then previous iterations. The company says it has taken cues from its classic Carrera watches, resulting in a less chunky design. Tag Heuer has also been able to make the watch physically smaller by hiding the antennas underneath a new ceramic bezel, in addition to putting the screen closer to the sapphire glass. The company was the first Swiss watchmaker to embrace touchscreen smart technology, launching the original Tag Heuer Connected in 2015. Jean-Claude Biver, then-president of the LVMH Watch Division (Hublot, Zenith and Tag Heuer), said that by the end of 2016 it had sold 56,000 units, triple the number predicted. A second version, the Connected Modular 45, that allowed owners to switch between connected and mechanical modules, a first for the Swiss industry, was launched in 2017. The Tag Heuer Golf, that displayed satellite views of more than 39,000 golf courses, launched last year. The new Tag Heuer Connected comes in a variety of case, strap and bracelet options, starting from $1,800. Additional straps and bracelets are also available. (esquire)

Supercar Capsule

Supercar Capsule wants to create bespoke private showrooms and garages to display supercars right in its owners' homes. The United Arab Emirates-based team's goal is to allow a customer's supercar to have a "distinct aesthetic experience at home," according to the company. Supercar Capsule can either design and construct separate villas or towers to showcase the vehicles, or modify existing garages and rooms in a home to turn a supercar into a piece of art meant to be displayed as such. The Supercar Capsule team is comprised of a group of engineers, designers, and architects. The bespoke garage project and its concept was created by ASZarchitetti Group, which is the collective of architecture firms ASZarchitetti and SUPERFUTUREDESIGN*. Combined, the group has already created over 400 projects around the world. The pricing of the capsule depends on what the client wants. However, a single glass showroom "pod" starts at $45,000. Girard-Perregaux Quasar Light Limited Edition

Swiss luxury watchmaker Girard-Perregaux has debuted a limited-edition version of its famous Quasar timepiece, now constructing its movement bridges in sapphire crystal as well. Named the Quasar Light, the intricately skeletonized watch features a near full-sapphire construction, from its casing to its crystals on the front and caseback as well as the dial and bridges itself. It’s equipped with a tourbillon composed of 79 different parts and makes a full rotation every 60 seconds for extreme accuracy, driven by an in-house 27-jewel automatic caliber GP09400-1128 movement which runs at 3Hz and boasts a power reserve of 60 hours. For an even cleaner look, the company has skillfully hidden the rotor underneath the mainspring barrel at the 12 o’clock position. According to Girard-Perregaux, the exclusive piece “required over 200 hours of work and hundreds of operations with techniques perfected over two centuries.” With only 18 samples made globally, the Quasar Light will go at a hefty price of $294,000 USD.
