Rolls-Royce has unveiled their vision for what autonomous
automotive luxury could look like a century from the present day in the
form of the 103EX concept. The 2100 A.D. vehicle features is a
Phantom Extended Wheelbase that brings the super-streamlined car to 19
feet in length. Retro touches in the grill are contrasted by a massive
darkened glass canopy, laser head and tail lights, automatic suicide
doors and 28-inch wheels. The canopy is designed to open in such a
way that its future occupants are able to fully stand when entering the
vehicle via a retractable red carpet covered step. Another past vs.
future touch is seen on the inside in the form of large woodgrain panels
and an OLED display. From a practical standpoint the vehicle would be
emissions-free, completely silent and entirely autonomous. “With the Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT 100 we
were mindful not to dwell on the past. We wanted to be as innovative as
possible and at the same time transcend the design history of the
marque,” said design director Giles Taylor.
