Hyde Designs,
a Cape Town-based customization shop operated by Jens Henkel, recently
completed its first build: a café racer based on the BMW G 650 X
Challenge. The design for the bike, titled “Octavia,” was finalized in
six months. Henkel stripped the G650 X Challenge, which was chosen for
its 650 Rotax single-cylinder engine, of many of its original parts to
create a build that bore little or no resemblance to its predecessor. The “Octavia” features a custom-welded steel tank that’s angular in
its architecture, as well as a fiberglass tail that mirrors the design
language of the bike. Look for more projects to come from the upstart
establishment. (highsnobiety)
