CSS "La Liberacion" Drops On August 22nd!

Quirky Brazillian electro-ravers CSS will return this Summer with their third studio album! Their third studio album, La LiberaciĆ³n drops on August 22nd with Hits Me Like a Rock leading as first single. The track features Bobby Gillespie from Primal Scream. Another track off the set, Red Alert will feature Ratatat (!).
Lead singer Lovefoxxx dished about the autobiographical City Grrrl, saying…
“I revisited my teenage years while living in the suburbs of my hometown. I’d be on the floor of my bedroom making the most ridiculous clothes and glue fake colored hair or x-ray pictures on clothes. I’d be sporting goth make up at 8am and when I hit the streets people would curse me from their cars in the most aggressive way.  [Calling me] ‘drag queen’, ‘whore.’  The song captures the sentiment of feeling like a true outsider and yearning to escape to a big city to find fellow outcasts.”

Juno Spacecraft Heads To Jupiter

Soon, we might have a clear picture of what lurks beneath Jupiter’s stormy clouds. NASA’s Juno probe will depart for the gas giant on Aug. 5, seeking evidence of what lies “inside” Jupiter, according to the agency. Until now, thick clouds have kept the planet’s surface from being explored.
“Our knowledge of Jupiter is truly skin deep,” said Juno’s principal investigator, Scott Bolton in a statement. “Even the Galileo probe, which dived into the clouds in 1995, penetrated no more than about 0.2 percent of Jupiter’s radius.” Researchers want to know how deep the planet’s giant red spot goes. How much water its surface contains. and what material comprises its core. Among other things, Juno will return evidence of Jupiter’s powerful Northern lights. Unlike the Earth which responds to solar activity, Jupiter makes its own auroras. Juno won’t reach Jupiter until 2016.

Fat and angry Joe Pesci sues 'Gotti' filmmakers

Actor says after he gained weight for role, he was bumped to a smaller part.

Joe Pesci's fat and angry. And that's not a good thing.
The volatile Oscar winner is suing mad after packing on 30 pounds to play a plump part in the upcoming mob film "Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father," only to see producers pull a switcheroo and offer him a much leaner role.
Now, Pesci's going to the mattresses.
In his lawsuit filed yesterday in Los Angeles, Pesci claims he was offered the role of Angelo Ruggiero, an enforcer and longtime confidant of boss John Gotti Sr., along with a $3 million paycheck.
But after Pesci joined other high-powered castmembers like John Travolta and Al Pacino (and, in a supporting role Lindsay Lohan) to hype the project, he says producer Fiore Films pulled a fast one and by offering him a lesser role of Anthony "Gaspipe" Casso, a mobster who tried to kill Gotti. The lesser role came with a lesser paycheck of $1 million.
Pesci cliams he was used to garner attention for the movie and that he had an oral contract for the role of Ruggiero. Plus, he says he broke his strict diet to gain pounds he now needs to shed.
"Defendant has no intention of paying Pesci $3 million or having him portray Ruggiero in the film," the lawsuit states. "Rather plaintiff secretly planned to use Pesci's name and likeness to promote the film and then to later concoct some pretext for terminating the contract so as to avoid paying plaintiff anything for the substantial publicity and 'buzz' that was generated."
But Fiore Films CEO Mark Fiore claims it's a big joke saying that Pesci walked away before a deal was ever inked and says he may now file a countersuit because Pesci never actually signed a contract to play a role in the movie.
The film is supposed to begin production Jan. 3.
And here we thought Lohan would be the distraction.

The instrument, dubbed the “Russian Hubble,” after the U.S. space telescope, is expected to give astronomers the ability to look billions of light years back in time in an effort to unlock the mystery of black holes, among other things.(more)

Guillermo Del Toro Brings His Twisted Rendition Of Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark To Comic-Con

Comic artist Troy Nixey's debut feature Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark, co-written by Guillermo del Toro, actually screened in full at last year's Comic-Con, as it was originally supposed to hit theaters in January of this year. With Disney selling off Miramax, the very scary flick was left in limbo until FilmDistrict picked it up earlier this year. A remake of a forgotten '70s flick, it tells the story of a young girl who moves into a creepy New England mansion with her father (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Katie Holmes). She discovers a secret basement and ventures into it, only to awaken the ghost of L. Ron Hubbard, who won't rest until the entire family is Clear. Oh, wait, that's not right. Instead she stirs up a group of incredibly scary little monsters who proceed, as supernatural creatures do, to get wild. This film has been done for a year, so there wasn't anything new here to see. What there was was excellent, with great atmosphere and a serious sense of tension and dread. They showed the trailer again, and the crowd was well into it. Nixey talked about the fact that the creatures - which are quite small - were originally rejected by the studio, which thought that they should be larger. The tiny, implacable creatures are unique and terrifying. In the words of Del Toro - "These little f-ers never give up." It'll be great to finally see this in the theater.

Mastodon (Hunter) New Album Trailer Available

Metal heavyweights Mastodon think their new album, The Hunter, is going to inspire some delinquency in the band’s listeners.
“Kids are going to get in trouble to this album,” guitarist-vocalist Brent Hinds told Rolling Stone. “They’re going to break speakers, pop springs on their beds and get drunk and nude in public.”
Those are high expectations for The Hunter, which is due later this year and was produced by Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Gwen Stefani). The band said they plan to include about 14 songs on the finished release, which finds the Atlanta group in a lighter mood than 2009’s Crack the Skye (which revolved around the brain hemorrhage of one member and the suicide of another’s sister).
This album includes the song “Stargasm,” which has some interesting subject matter.
“It’s about [expletive] in space,” said drummer Brann Dailor, who initially came up with a space concept for the whole album. “Brent was like, ‘[Expletive] all that! Let’s just have fun.”

Golden Yacht Believed To Be Most Expensive

It's the gold standard of yachts - literally.
Believed to be the most expensive yacht in the world, the entire hull of the 100-foot History Supreme is wrapped in a thin layer of gold. In all, 100 tonnes of solid gold and platinum were used to bling this boat - on the deck, in the dining area, on the railings, the anchor and other accents. It was commissioned by an anonymous Malaysian businessman, who reportedly paid about the equivalent of $4.6 billion. That works out to about $46 million per foot. The vessel, which took three years to build, is the handiwork of Stuart Hughes, a jeweller in Liverpool, U.K., who is known for his bespoke luxury items, like a diamond-wrapped iPhone worth about $7.7 million.

"Beavis and Butt-head" Return In Comic-Con Preview

NEW YORK (TheWrap) - Never fear "Beavis and Butt-head" fans: our always-snickering pal Beavis is still the Great Cornholio and he still needs T.P. for his bunghole. Mike Judge hit Comic-Con on Thursday to discuss the revival of his one-time MTV staple and explained that he quit doing the show in 1997 after a four-year run of 200 episodes because he was "getting a little burned out." But he has enthusiastically returned to the idea, with new episodes of "Beavis and Butt-head" set to return to MTV this October. Based on the teaser Judge unveiled at the event, anyone expecting "Beavis and Butt-head" to veer from the path that made it a Gen-X favorite will be sorely disappointed. Anyone expecting to laugh moronically like they did all those years ago, however, will be richly rewarded. In fact, other than the inclusion of "Jersey Shore" clips that our animated heroes unload on in favor of music videos, the clip looks like it's straight out of the 1990s -- in a very, very good way. "I'm a whore, hello?" says Snooki in a snippet from "The Jersey Shore." "That's how she answers the phone," jokes Butt-head, to the giggling approval of his pal Beavis. Thank you, Mike Judge.

Andrej Pejic & Rico "Zombie Boy" Team Up For Auslander

These guys have taken the fashion world by storm, and in the last couple of seasons we've seen them everywhere from the Paris runways to international Vogue editorials to Lady Gaga videos. Brazilian brand Auslander decided to capitalize on Andrej and Rico's collective fame by not only asking them to walk the runway for its Spring 2012 show in Rio, but also by featuring them in its summer catalog. Rico looks uncharacteristically preppy in collared shirts (one even has polka dots!) and smart trousers, while Andrej does what he does best: double duty in both flirty feminine ensembles and cool menswear. These two make quite a dynamic duo, don't they?(more)

Beastie Boys (Don't play no game i can't win)

The Beastie Boys have reunited with acclaimed film and music video director Spike Jonze for “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win,” another future classic reminiscent of 1994′s “Sabotage” despite not actually featuring the Boys themselves. Both the group and special guest Santigold are portrayed by action figures, and spend their time being chased by a terrorist like group that won’t sleep until the group has ceased performing forever. (Because they don’t like goofy party music?) Most interesting is the lack of emphasis on the Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 track itself, which moves from being faint background noise to utterly nonexistent at times throughout the 11-minute clip. (There’s a shorter version if you don’t have the attention span.) Yes, it’s all about the action—and the violence—between the boys and their hunters. Just because they are made of plastic, doesn’t mean they don’t bleed (they’re dolls, not aliens.)

Buscemi refuses to have his teeth fixed

Chew on this.
Steve Buscemi just earned a lead actor Emmy nomination for his role as mobster Nucky Johnson on HBO's Boardwalk Empire, which scored 18 nominations overall Thursday. But he says he'd never have gotten to where he is now if he'd heeded early advice to change his smile.
"I've had dentists who have wanted to help me out, but I say, 'You know, I won't work again if you fix my teeth,'" says Buscemi, who was nominated for an Emmy Thursday. (more)

Red State to open Montreal's FanTasia

The latest film from writer-director Kevin Smith, Red State, has been selected to open the 2011 FanTasia Film Festival in Montreal. A long time in the making, Smith first talked of this project in 2006 and announced its title in 2007. Funding was announced in 2009, but filming didn't begin on the rumoured 4-million dollar project until late last year. Smith decided to edit the project as it was being shot and showed the first cut of Red State during the production's wrap party. The plot of the film is fairly straight forward if you lean your head over to an extreme angle and squint just a little bit with your left eye. It begins with three teenagers who come across an online personal advertisement from an older woman looking for kinky group sex. But what begins as a fantasy takes a dark turn as they come face-to-face with a terrifying fundamentalist religious force with a fatal agenda. (more)

Lebowski Fest Turns Ten

Though it's been held in several major cities across the United States, the Lebowski Fest was founded in Louisville, which is why it’s fitting that it celebrates its 10th anniversary here as well. Traditionally the festival lasts two days and kicks off with a slew of bands followed by a screening of the cult classic, The Big Lebowski. (more)
