MB&F LM1 Silberstein
MB&F introduced its second timepiece touched by the world famous designer with Alain Silberstein. Characterized by geometric details and bright colors, Alain
Silberstein’s watches were avant-garde in his heyday during the 1990s.
Though his namesake brand went bust in 2012, Silberstein has designed
watches for other independent brands, including the fresh off the press
MB&F LM1 Silberstein. Alain Silberstein timepieces were quite avant-garde when they
peaked popularity during 1990s. Sadly, Silberstein’s own brand went bust
in 2012 but, Silberstein kept designing watches for several brands. The
designer’s first collaboration with MB&F was the HM2.2 Black Box
introduced in 2009. The second collaboration between MB&F and Silberstein is the LM1 Silberstein mainly a new version of the original LM1, bearing the typical Silberstein look. Though the case is the same 42.5mm size as the original, the LM1
Silberstein case has a straight side, rounded edge and no bezel,
recalling Silberstein’s own watch case designs. The inner side of the
lug at six o’clock is engraved “Le vrai bonheur est d’avoir sa passion
pour métier”, Silberstein’s motto which translates as “Having your
passion as a profession is true happiness.” The other accents like the six-pointed crown and triangular red
hour hands are also typical Silberstein patterns. On the other hand
there are several unusual features like the bowl-shaped sub-dials and a
clear sapphire crystal bridge for the oversized balance wheel. The timepiece is powered by the same movement inside the standard
LM1 but now it’s decorated with frosted finish instead of the classic
Cotes de Genève. There are three variants are available – red gold, titanium or
black-coated titanium – and each of them is limited to 12 pieces only. (horobox)
