First Trailer For "Atari: Game Over" Released

Microsoft has shared the first trailer for Atari: Game Over, the Xbox-exclusive documentary about Atari, the 1983 video game industry crash, and the New Mexico desert mass burial of the famously terrible; E.T. game. In April 2014, Microsoft funded an excavation of the New Mexico landfill where Atari dumped thousands of unsold copies of the terrible E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial adaptation that nearly sank the entire emerging video games industry. The documentary, directed by Zak Penn, interviews everyone from the game’s creator and Atari’s executives to residents of Alamogordo, NM, where the unsold games were buried for decades. Atari: Game Over is one of the few projects to escape from the collapse of Xbox Entertainment Studios, which fell as collateral damage to Microsoft’s recent restructuring. The documentary comes out this fall on Xbox Live and xboxvideo.com.

Primus Announces 'Willy Wonka'-Themed Album, Shares Cover Of "'Pure Imagination"

The classic lineup of Primus that made Sailing the Seas of Cheese (Les Claypool, Larry "Ler" LaLonde, and Tim "Herb" Alexander) have gotten back together for a new, food-themed album, due out October 21. Specifically it's a tribute to the classic 1971 movie musical version of Roald Dahl's Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, covering the entire soundtrack in their own inimitable way. (Even "Cheer Up Charlie" which used to get cut from the TV version.) Says Claypool: "The idea was to combine the Frog Brigade and Primus, and do this record,' says Claypool. I think like a good portion of the planet, we were all pretty put off by the remake of the 'Willy Wonka' movie - the Tim Burton version. I really wanted to pay homage to a film that was very important to me as a kid and very influential to me musically. So that's what we did. And as opposed to just going in and recording the songs and playing them the way they are in the film, we twisted them up a bit...twisted them up a lot". You can stream "Pure Imagination" from Primus & the Chocolate Factory below. (brooklynvegan)

Japanese Village Creates Art From Hues Of Rice

Each year, some rice paddies in Japan become huge, living paintings. Farmers plant different species of rice to create these amazing murals, with varieties that grow black, white, light green, bright green. The rice paddy artwork is seen as a way to attract tourists to parts of Japan that aren't near major centres or natural attractions like mountains and bodies of water. The tradition got started in the village of Inakadate, about 1000 km north of Tokyo, back in 1993, according to the Daily Mail. That's still the place to see the most impressive examples of this rice paddy artwork. Only 8,700 people live in Inakadate, but they receive an average of about 150,00 visitors each year to see the work. Other villages have joined in, including Yonezawa in the Yamagata prefecture. Planting takes place in late May, with volunteers, villagers and farmers working together to put the right varieties in the right place.

The iconic Traveller WW.TC opts for an intense all-black look with the release of a new Titanium DLC version from Girard-Perregaux. Highly technical and sophisticated, the design houses a manufactured mechanical movement offering world times and chronograph functions and is meant to be the perfect contemporary traveling companion. Coupling a rubber-treated alligator strap with a 44 mm case, the timepiece features a three-dimensional representation of the latitudes and longitudes covering the Earth – a uniformly black backdrop to the hours and minutes displays. Both the hands and hour-markers sport luminous coatings for added visibility as a bright red central seconds hand stands out on its own. Finally, minutes and hours are marked by separate counters at the 9 o’clock and 6 o’clock positions while the world time function is displayed along the perimeter of the dial thanks to two rings – an inner ring that’s constantly in motion and completes a full revolution every 24 hours and a static outer ring that shows the 24 time zones that divide the planet.
