Arsenal Firearms Double Barrel Pistol
New Italian firearms manufacturer Arsenal Firearms has arrived with a
bang, introducing a double-barrel 1911 pistol that fires two
.45-caliber projectiles simultaneously. At first glance, Arsenal's AF2011-A1
looks like two 1911s fused together, but a closer look reveals a more
integrated platform that must have been a challenge to engineer. Arsenal produced a demo video that shows the firing of
eight double-round .45 ACP rounds. In the demo, "4,000 grains of payload
[are] sent downrange in about 5 seconds," a narrator says.
A comparible 9mm pistol would require about 30 rounds and several magazine changes to achieve the same result. While this gun is unlikely to ever see use in law enforcement as a duty weapon, it's clearly an engineering marvel, and we wouldn't decline an offer to shoot one. (policemag)

Nissan IDx NISMO Concept
Nissan has introduced today in Tokyo the retro-flavored IDx Freeflow
and IDx Nismo concepts. Both of them have a classic Skyline-inspired
design but with a hi-tech twist, especially inside their futuristic
cabins. The IDx Freeflow is a compact concept measuring about 4.1 meters in
length, 1.7 meters in width and 1.3 meters in height. It adopts a
floating roof and sits on 18-inch chrome alloys while the exterior paint
is a combination of white and flax (light brown). Under the hood it is
envisioned with a variety of 1.2- to 1.5-liter gasoline engines coupled
to a CVT. As for the IDx Nismo, it has the same length and height as the
Freeflow but the width has increased to 1.8 meters. It rides on larger
19-inch alloys shod in 225/40 tires and benefits from a sporty body kit
and a race-inspired interior with many metal surfaces. Both of them were made simply for conceptual purposes and won't get a
direct production derivative. However, with the IDx duo Nissan could be
hinting at a RWD competitor for the Toyota GT 86 / Subaru BRZ / Scion
FR-S trio. (worldcarfans)

based on a short story by Japanese poet Hori Tatsuo, follows Jiro
through pre-World War II Japan, the country’s devastating 1923
earthquake, a tuberculosis epidemic and economic troubles that preceded
the war. It’s a departure from Miyazaki’s previous work, which often
relied on myth, magical realism and a strong focus on nature. “The Wind Rises,” which marks Miyazaki’s first time directing since
“Ponyo” five years ago, was released briefly earlier this month for an Oscar-qualifying run.
Originally in Japanese with English subtitles, “The Wind Rises” will be
