A luxury Riva speedboat once owned by Lamborghini founder Ferruccio
Lamborghini has been restored by Dutch speedboat specialists Riva World. The Riva Aquarama Lamborghini – to give it its full name – was built 45
years ago as a commission for the then tractor-manufacturing
businessman. It has spent much of its life hidden away from the world, and its
whereabouts only came into public knowledge after Ferruccio's death in
1993. It was only then that the boat was tracked down by an anonymous
Dutch Riva enthusiast and given to experts at Riva World for
restoration. That was three years ago, and now the Aquarama has been presented in its
full magnificence. The restoration project wasn't the work of a moment,
either, with the company's owner, Sandro Zani, regularly travelling to
Italy and the Ferruccio Lamborghini museum, to ensure all the elements
of the original were present and correct. As befits a speedboat for the man behind the company who arguably
defined the supercar genre, the Aquarama Lamborghini is the fastest of
its kind in the world, being fitted with two Lamborghini V12 engines,
for a combined total of 700hp – more than Lamborghini's current flagship
supercar, the Aventador. The bespoke engines lift the top speed of the Aquarama from 40 to 48
knots, and the Lamborghini version also accelerates more quickly at
lower rpm. Both the interior and exterior have also been painstakingly restored,
with 25 separate lacquer coatings applied to the hull alone. It is not known what will happen to the newly rejuvenated Aquarama
Lamborghini, but given that it is being described as a "collector's item
for true connoisseurs", expect to see it at a swanky auction near you
soon, sporting a truly eye-watering price tag. (cars.aol)
