Scotch Whisky In A Can

A distillery in Scotland is planning to sell its whisky in beer cans. Each 12-ounce can of Scottish spirits — which will sell for about $5 if and when it hits the United States — will hold eight shots. It’ll be billed as “the perfect size to be shared between three people.’’ But the Scotch Whisky Association wants to can the entire idea. It insists that selling the country’s most famous product in such a humble container would violate international labeling rules. 

Bloc Party To Release New Album In 2012

Bloc Party will release a new album with singer Kele Okereke, it has been confirmed.
The singer, who was thought to have been sacked from the band last year, confirmed that he will reunite with the band for new material. Following reports that Okereke had left the band, they posted an image of the lineup which included the singer alongside the caption: "Bloc Party is still Bloc Party." During an interview with Zane Lowe on Radio 1 this morning (January 3) Okereke has revealed that a new Bloc Party album with himself on lead vocals, set for release later this year. The band have been on hiatus since they completed touring their third album, 2008's 'Intimacy', in 2009. Kele released his latest EP 'The Hunter' on October 31.

"Commodore 64" Is 30 Years Old

The legendary Commodore 64 is 30 years old. Introduced to the world in January 1982, the brown-toned C64 went on to become the best-selling personal computer ever. The Commodore 64 was an 8-bit computer that dominated the world of personal comuting for almost ten years. It boasted a MOS Technology 6510 processor running at a peppy 1MHz, with 64k of memory, a 16-colour graphics chip and a full motherboard of memories. Ah, halcyon days of cassette-based games that took so long to load you had to play another game while you waited. Work on what would become the computer we know and love began in 1981, and a year later the Commodore 64 was unveiled at top tech extravaganza the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It went on sale in late summer 1982. Although initial sales were modest, as many as 17 million C64's eventually appeared in living homes and offices. But as the 80s became the 90s Commodore fell hard, filing for bankruptcy in 1994. A Commodore 65 prototype was built, but never released, and by the mid-90s the C64 was no more. It may have been gone, but the Commodore 64 was not forgotten. In 2010 new company Commodore USA set out to ressurrect the beige behemoth with modern componentry, and the result is the Commodore 64x, pictured above. Not only does the 64x match the boxy brown styling, it also matches the original C64's price.

Senegalese Singer Youssou N'dour Running For President

World-famous Senegalese music star Youssou Ndour has officially entered the presidential race in his country.
Ndour said Monday on the television station he owns that he will challenge President Abdoulaye Wade in the February election. The 52-year-old singer had announced in November he was taking time off from music in order to focus on politics, saying he had founded a new movement called “Fekke Maci Boole,” meaning “I am engaged” in the local Wolof language. Ndour — named by Time magazine in 2007 as one of the world's 100 most influential people — has long used his music to deliver political messages. He has also emerged as an outspoken critic of President Wade. The 85-year-old president is seeking a controversial third term, despite a constitutional two-term limit. Mr. Wade's supporters say he can run because the law was not in effect when he was first elected in 2000. Senegal's Constitutional Court has yet to rule on his eligibility.

Goldfinger To Release New Album In 2012

 

In a video posted on the Goldfinger facebook page, singer John Feldman recapped the highlights of 2011 and states that Goldfinger will soon begin work on a new album which they plan to release sometime in 2012. Goldfinger released their last album, “Hello Destiny” in 2008 on SideOneDummy Records.

Dennis Rodman Coaching Topless Basketball Team

Just when you think you've seen it all from former Detroit Pistons bad boy Dennis Rodman, he has out done himself once again. Rodman is known for his piercings, tattoos and colorful hairstyles. Now, the NBA Hall of Famer is getting back into basketball-this time as a coach for a topless women's team. Reports say Rodman is launching a team for New York's Headquarters Gentlemen's Club. He allegedly got the idea from rival strip club Rick's Cabaret, who launched a league of its own with former Atlanta Hawk Spud Webb. The former Piston told the New York Post he's been a customer of the strip club for years and is currently scouting talent for his team. He is said to be looking for girls over 5-foot-10 to join his squad. Rodman says team members will wear skimpy shorts and sneakers during games, but obviously no shirts.

Remastered Edition Of Dio's Classic Album 'Holy Diver' Coming In January,

Audiophile specialty record label Audio Fidelity will release a newly remastered edition of DIO's classic debut album, "Holy Diver", in January 2012 as part of its 24K Gold Compact Disc series. This new edition promises to be a significant sonic upgrade over past releases of this timeless debut due to the use of the original 1983 Sound City studio analog 30 ips AES half-inch non-Dolby original stereo mix tapes along with the mastering expertise of renowned audiophile music restoration specialist Steve Hoffman. Most previous releases relied on post-EQ'ed cutting tapes. "Holy Diver" is one of the most respected albums in rock and metal and Ronnie James Dio was one of the most talented and respected artists in the world. Hailed by critics as DIO's best work, the album was eventually certified platinum in the U.S. The CD contains a two-page spread copy of the photo-montage LP liner with images from both RAINBOW and BLACK SABBATH days that was included in the original vinyl release.
