Honda CX500 Type 8 By Auto Fabrica

When British motorcycle shop Auto Fabrica was confronted with a Honda CX500, they decided to leave the unique frame as is and build the entire design around it. After stripping the bike down completely to said frame and shortening the forks, they outfitted it with a selection of parts that would compliment the bike’s awkward frame, such as a hand-built aluminum gas tank, a perforated leather seat, spoked wheels, Maxton springs, Hagon shocks, and a new custom exhaust system built from stainless steel. Powering the redesigned Honda is the original engine, albeit rebuilt with new heads, and rebuilt carbs that now run foam filters. (gearmoose)

BMW G650 X Challenge Cafe Racer

Hyde Designs, a Cape Town-based customization shop operated by Jens Henkel, recently completed its first build: a café racer based on the BMW G 650 X Challenge. The design for the bike, titled “Octavia,” was finalized in six months. Henkel stripped the G650 X Challenge, which was chosen for its 650 Rotax single-cylinder engine, of many of its original parts to create a build that bore little or no resemblance to its predecessor. The “Octavia” features a custom-welded steel tank that’s angular in its architecture, as well as a fiberglass tail that mirrors the design language of the bike. Look for more projects to come from the upstart establishment. (highsnobiety)

2017 Opel GT Concept

General Motors' Germany-based Opel division has unveiled a new concept called GT at the Geneva Auto Show. The GT's silhouette is loosely inspired by the Experimental GT concept that Opel presented at the 1965 edition of the Frankfurt Auto Show. The similarities between the two models are vague at best, and the coupe doesn't feature a full-on retro-styled look like the Volkswagen Beetle and the Fiat 500. Instead, its front end borrows a handful of styling cues from the Monza concept that was shown at the 2013 Frankfurt show. Highly futuristic, the GT boasts a two-tone black and gray paint job accented by a red stripe, red front tires, and side windows that are seamlessly integrated into the doors. The door handles have been replaced by touch pads located in the aforementioned red stripes, and the coupe is fitted with cameras in lieu of mirrors. Power comes from a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine that's borrowed from the Adam, a small city car aimed right at the Fiat 500. It has been tweaked to send 145 horsepower to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox. The GT reaches 60 mph from a stop in less than eight seconds, and it goes on to a top speed of 133 mph. While rumors claim the GT will spawn a production model, Opel stresses the coupe is merely a design study developed for the auto show circuit. Opel first used the GT nameplate on a coupe that was launched in 1968 and briefly sold in the United States through Buick dealerships alongside a handful of other models including the Kadett and the Manta. The GT was axed in 1973, but the moniker was dusted off in 2007 for Opel's version of the short-lived Saturn Sky. (leftlanenews)

1000hp Gumpert Apollo Arrow Debuts At Geneva Motor Show

The boutique automaker once known as Gumpert has re-emerged from bankruptcy as Apollo, thanks to a new Hong Kong-based investor; and it’s just unveiled its first new supercar model, the Arrow, at the Geneva Motor Show. Founder Roland Gumpert is still running the company, and his latest creation is closely based on his old Gumpert Apollo, though now the car’s Audi-sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 is expected to make 1,000 horsepower and 740 lbs-ft of torque. That should help the Arrow fly through the gears and on its way up to 100 km/h from zero in a predicted 2.9 seconds; top speed is, theoretically, 360 km/h (220 mph). The curvy bodywork is, of course, also totally unlike the old Gumpert’s, which featured side intakes and exhaust vents defined by straight lines. Apollo will churn Arrows out of a new factory in Germany, but says it will only make 100 examples. Pricing has not yet been disclosed. (CTV)

Urwerk UR-105 "T-Rex"

Seemingly belonging to the Cretaceous Period, the Urwerk UR-105 T-Rex features a bronze crisscross patterned case, reminiscent of dinosaur scales. Limited to just 22 pieces, the UR-105 T-Rex is powered by a t.02 UR automatic double turbine movement. The mechanism contains satellite-like disks orbiting within the case to indicate hours, read from left to right. The bronze case features a black PVD caseback and measures 39.5 by 53 millimeters and sits 16.8 millimeters off the wrist. “The UR-105 T-Rex represents the symbiosis of two dimensions, time and space,” Chief Designer and Co-Founder of Urwerk Martin Frei said. “The means chosen to indicate the time is ancient, inherited from the Sumerians and dating back to the second millennium BC, when the shadow cast by the sun playing across their imposing monuments served as their clock. It is nonetheless truly contemporary. In this case, today, the position of our satellite on the dial plays the decisive role, by focusing our attention on the moment in hand. The past no longer exists and the future has yet to be created. All that counts is the time being displayed. What will we do with these 60 minutes?” (iwmagazine)

The Koenigsegg Regera has been revealed in production specification at the Geneva Motor Show 2016. The new megacar is crammed full of technology, heralding in a new era for Koenigsegg. The Koenigsegg Regera was introduced in concept form at the 2015 Geneva Auto Show last year. Since then, Koenigsegg have received huge amounts of interest and have taken numerous customer orders. The Koenigsegg Direct Drive system receives some enhancements with a new clutch-slip mechanism that uses the hydraulic coupling to convert torque at medium/high speeds during fast acceleration. Koenigsegg has an 800 volt, 4.5kWh battery pack. It is capable of providing 525kW of discharge and up to 200kW of recharge. The cells are hand built to provide improved performance and regenerative capability. They save 25 kg over the concept and weigh just 90 kg. 0 to 300 km/h takes just 10.9 seconds. Overall, the Regera produces 1,500+ hp output, 2000+ Nm of torque. o to 100 km/h is possible in 2.8 seconds, 0-200 in just 6.6 seconds and 0-300 in 10.9 seconds. Bugatti Reveals The Chiron

The Bugatti Chiron is the successor to the 1001hp Veyron, a car that changed the rules for what was thought possible of a ‘mass production’ super sports tourer. Running an evolution of the Veyron’s 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine, matched to four new and larger turbochargers, the Chiron promises a staggering 1500PS (1103kW) of power – as signified by the ‘1500’ stamped on the engine. That number is matched to a mighty 1600Nm of torque, sent to the ground through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a permanent all-wheel drive system. Those figures, the company says, makes the Chiron “very well-positioned to become the next world speed record holder and reach a maximum speed significantly above the record currently held by Bugatti”. Officially, the Chiron’s road speed is electronically limited to 420km/h – largely as a matter of protecting the tires against a blowout – and Bugatti promises a 0-100km/h sprint time of “less than” 2.5 seconds.
