1957 Maserati 250S

A classic mid-century Maserati has been restored to perfection for a showing at the RM Auctions London exhibition this September. This 1957 Maserati 250S is one of just a few ever constructed, a vehicle that represented the best of the 200S series that was popularized on the amateur racing circuit. Unlike the smaller 200S, the 1957 Maserati 250S was powered by a hefty 230 horsepower inline 6 engine that raced to 161 mph against professional-class competition. The 1957 Maserati 250S was produced for a handful of racing pioneers from the middle of the last century. Several were built for Jim Hall and Carroll Shelby, the latter of which is one of the most recognized names in American motorsport history. This was a remarkable vehicle for its time, and this version has been restored to that original esteem. This 1957 Maserati 250S will go under the gavel on September 8th at the RM Auctions London show. Reserve and estimated bidding pricing has not yet been released.

Sebastien Loeb Smashes Pikes Peak Record

Sebastien Loeb has demolished the record at Pikes Peak. His run in the Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak clocked a time of 8:13.878. This makes him the only person to break the eight minute mark and it beats last year’s record of 9:46 by more than 15 percent. Last years time was set by Rhys Millen who followed Loeb after his record run today. By comparison, Millen managed a 2013 time of 9:02.192, shaving 45 seconds off his personal best yet not even coming close to Loeb’s time. For those that might not have heard of Pikes Peak before, it is a mountain in Colorado, USA. It features a paved road which leads to the 4,300 meter summit. The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb runs 12.42 miles which means that the average speed for Loeb’s run was 90.5476 mph or 145.7223 kmh. (gtspirit)

Check Out The $528 Million Luxury Hotel Being Built In An Abandoned Chinese Quarry

Construction has officially begun on a £345 million ($528 million) resort project in an abandoned quarry in China's Songjiang District, The Daily Mail reports.
Known as the Songjiang Shimao Hotel, the resort is part of a larger development plan to turn the area into a theme park, according to Li Xuyang, a senior manager for the Shimao Group. They are planning to build an eco-friendly roof with grass and trees that uses natural resources for power. Two of the building's 19 stories will be underwater with aquarium-style walls, so guests can look out into the quarry. The other 17 stories will be built inside the cave, which is at the base of the Tianmenshan Mountain, according to The Daily Mail. The entire project is expected to take around three years to complete, opening in approximately 2015 with an average cost of £200 — or $306 — a room per night, The Daily Mail reports. Napoleon’s Death Mask Sells For $260,000

An extraordinary cast of the death mask of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, which spent years gathering dust in a family attic, has fetched a whopping 169,250 pounds (around $260,000) - almost three times its presale estimate – at an auction here. The mask went under the hammer in Bonhams Book, Map and Manuscript sale in Knightsbridge, London, yesterday. It had been estimated at 40,000-60,000 pounds. The cast - known as the 'Boys cast' - was made for the Rev Richard Boys, Senior Chaplain of St Helena, shortly after Napoleon's death on the island of St Helena on May 5, 1821. It was the most significant example remaining in private hands and bears an autograph note of authentication written by Boys. All but one of the other examples are in national collections, either in France or in Corsica. It was being sold by Andrew Boys, a direct descendent of the original owner's brother who decided to sell the mask after it had spend years sitting in the attic of his house. After Napoleon's death, there was a protracted wrangle over whether his physician, Francesco Antommarchi, or the British doctor, Francis Burton, should make a death mask. Practical difficulties also meant that this was not done until 7 May, two days after the former Emperor had died. The mask was given to the Rev Richard Boys by the portrait painter, JW Rubidge, who assisted Antommarchi in making the mask. Boys received it before Napoleon's entourage left the island towards the end of May. The mask is inscribed "Rev Mr Boys" on the inside of the cast, and comes with a note by Boys reading: "This Cast was taken from the Face of Napoleon Buonaparte as he lay dead at Longwood St Helena 7th May 1821 which I do hereby certify/ R Boys MA Sen.r Chaplain/ By Rubidge".
